When it comes to creating a beautiful centrepiece, simple is often best! You can create a stunning impact by grouping together clusters of candles and simple foliage – or you could mix the two. Try wrapping your candles for a fragrant and floral creation that will have your guests complimenting you on your talent! Arrange them on a beautiful linen cloth and you can’t go wrong!

Using woody plants or succulents will ensure your centrepiece is long-lasting and can be made ahead of time. Rosemary adds a gorgeous scent too! Once you have your materials laid out, it won’t take long to whip up a stunning display that is perfect for your kitchen tea, a posh afternoon soiree or even your wedding!

What You Will Need:

  • Foliage of choice
  • Selection of candles
  • Candle holders (make use of glass jars or vintage glasses – even plates! Be creative!)
  • Scissors
  • Selection of ribbon (try to keep the ribbons all in the same tone, this will tie your display together)

What To Do:

Step One. Trim your chosen foliage into small pieces, remembering to keep them short enough so that they won’t catch on fire once the candle begins to burn down. Remove the leaves from the bottom of the stem.

Step Two. If you are using jars or vintage candle holders, you can begin to simply wedge foliage around the candle. Begin with the thicker stemmed foliage and work your way around. Using rosemary or other hardy herbs will add a beautiful fragrance to your centrepiece.

Step Three. If your candle will be free-standing, begin by wrapping a large piece of ribbon around it and tie in a loose knot. Wedge in several pieces of foliage, again starting with the thicker stemmed items. Once you have repeated this three or four times, tighten the knot.

Step Four. Continue adding foliage all the way around the candle, slightly loosening the knot as you go if need be. Remember to keep the foliage below the wick to keep your centrepiece safe.

Once you’re finished wrapping all your candles, you can cluster groups together for a fragrant and beautiful display that is so simple and effective! You can use any extra foliage around the display to add some extra texture too.

Use all one type of foliage for a minimalist design – go herbal for a botanic themed event or try natives if you’re wanting to go natural. Add fabric like beautifully creased linen in a colour that matches your event and you’re all set!
