Sarat & Parya

Is there a better place to be than Sydney Harbour when the sun casts its final golden glow? Sarat & Parya were right on the money when they teamed up with Kylie of Just For Love Photography for their romantic Sydney Harbour engagement session. Golden light, amazing landmarks, a beautiful love story – what more could one want?

The couple kicked off their afternoon at Luna Park, before making the most of the sunset on the harbour. The bride to be tells “We were both raised in Sydney and the city itself has formed a major part of our identity. As we weren’t having our wedding in Sydney, we definitely wanted the city to play some part in our photos. We chose Luna Park to satisfy our light-hearted fun side, and Mrs Macquarie Chair for its elegance and grace. They are also both locations where we had spent some time, and meant a lot to us.”

Parya tells the story of how the happy couple met. “We met at a doctor’s orientation party after my first week as an intern doctor at Royal North Shore Hospital. Sarat at the time was a resident doctor (one year ahead of me) and his role was to ‘orientate’ me to the hospital. The party was held at the local pub and conveniently, with an open bar. We first locked eyes at the bar and I introduced myself to him, but we didn’t really have a chance to chat that night.
For the following couple months, there was a lot of swapping of shifts to be on call/working at the same time or hanging around each other’s wards to accidentally ‘bump’ into the other person (he has since confessed to both of these). Finally, two months later, we decided to go on a date!”

On what they love about one another, Parya tells “Our personalities are quite different, but we complement each other in a way I never thought was possible.
I love the fact that Sarat is very compassionate, reliable, loving and considerate. I love the way he cares for his family and those whom he is close to. He is very selfless in his actions. I also love his love for cartoons keeping him in tune with his inner child. I also love the fact he loves Seinfeld and Survivor – my favourites! He is also very supportive of me no matter what, and I know he will always allow me to strive for my dreams (we’re living two hours away from each other just because I got my dream job!).

He tells me he loves my spontaneity, flexibility, my caring nature and the fact that I challenge him and allow us both to grow. I know he loves the fact that I love Seinfeld too!”

Parya tells the story of how Sarat proposed. “We both enjoy the outdoors and especially love going on treks to and swimming in waterfalls. In the past, we have travelled overseas to several countries just to go waterfall hopping (the largest waterfall being Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe/Zambia!). I had previously told my friends that I had always wanted ‘my guy’ to propose to me in front of a waterfall.

We got engaged after 3 years of dating. We decided to go on an impromptu holiday to Cairns over the Australia day weekend. It was his idea that I organise a day of activities, and he would organise another day. On his day, he woke me up at 5 am and picked me up in the nicest car Cairns airport had to offer. After two hours of driving we ended up at the start of a bush track and he told me to make a start as he was getting something out of the trunk. Unbeknownst to me, he had arranged a picnic breakfast by a lovely yet isolated waterfall, during which he popped the question. He also somehow managed to film the whole thing on our go pro! It was a lovely surprise!

The proposal was followed by a swim in the waterfall where we both got covered in ticks! But it didn’t seem to bother us at all. We had a lovely dinner that night and finally got to share the news with our families.”
