Elizabeth & Andrew

If today’s floral print wedding gown doesn’t sweep you off to dream land, then maybe the magic golden sunset will – or the heartfelt stories. This sweet and simple flower inspired wedding is full of the best kind of stories with the most beautiful setting all captured beautifully by Shoshana Kruger Photography.

On how they met, the newlyweds Elizabeth (Lil) and Andrew tell “We met in a tutorial at university, in a unit that was a cross-over between our two different degrees.”

The bride designed the dress herself, also making her gorgeous ball skirt. She worked with Tempest Eve to create the bodice, noting “I designed the dress, and the bodice was custom-made by Jessica at Tempest Eve. I made the skirt myself. I realised from looking around it would be hard to find something I felt was my style within our budget, so I got to work! It was fun to be able to include details like pockets and a higher front hem for dancing. Mum was really happy to help and I did all of the sewing at her house to keep it a secret.”

The bride created her own bouquet, telling “I went to a couple of wholesale florists in Leederville with Emma (my bridesmaid) and my Mum two days before and picked out some flowers that were in season. We brought them back home and arranged the flowers for our bouquets, the flower girl’s posy, and some bouquets that we gave to friends as thank you’s for helping out.”

The couple chose Maylands Yacht Club  for their wedding. “The Maylands Yacht Club was a good location for the logistics of the wedding – it meant we could have the ceremony and reception at the same venue.” Elizabeth adding “Early on, maybe three months into our relationship, I blindfolded Andrew and took him on a date to the jetty in Maylands, with a picnic sitting on the jetty under the stairs. It’s such a beautiful spot. When we were planning the wedding and booked the hall at the yacht club, I had forgotten about the date, but Andrew reminded me of the time we went there.”

Elizabeth walked down the aisle with her parents to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.

The couple started their ceremony with a “Welcome To Country” explaining “We loved the welcome song performed by Dale Tilbrook, who gave a really wonderful introduction that touched on marriage in indigenous culture. We also loved our reading, which is a passage from Watchmen by Alan Moore.”

Of their photographer, Lil and Andrew remark “Shoshana did an absolutely amazing job. She made us feel at ease the whole time and got some really beautiful shots.”

Andrew notes “My favourite photos are the ones of us on the jetty dancing.”

Of their first dance, the newlyweds remember “We chose “Moon River” by Henry Mancini, a beautiful song, and one that we could dance a simple three/four waltz to. We had to practice a few times at home to get it right, and Shoshana caught us on camera practising on the jetty before making our entrance.”

“When we finished our first dance, and the dance floor immediately filled up, full of family and friends having a good time as the sun was setting over the city.”

Guests enjoyed a vegan feast. “All the food for the reception was vegan. To make it possible within our budget, we had a buffet and the food was catered by ten of our guests as their gifts to us. And it was all delicious! The cake was vegan too, Ferrero Rocher flavour with vanilla icing made by Vegelicious.  We really wanted to have an environmentally friendly, vegan wedding, as it’s something we both care about. We made sure there was more than enough food, and plenty of drinks to keep people happy. Everyone we spoke to complimented the food, and said it was really tasty.”

Congratulations on your marriage Elizabeth and Andrew! Thank you for sharing the stories of your day with us! Thank you also to Shoshana Kruger Photography for sharing today’s wedding!
