Ashleigh & Luke

When laughter is evident in every photo, sunsets are fairy floss pink and bouquets are bright and beautiful, how can one not feel good about tying the knot? Ashleigh and Luke’s relaxed Bunker Bay wedding, captured by Folklore Weddings ticks all the boxes for a wedding that is filled with love, laughter and plenty of heartfelt joy.

The couple met in a moment that almost never happened, Ashleigh explaining “We met at a mutual friend’s birthday. I was so close to not going as I was feeling sorry for myself and wanted to stay home and eat chocolate. I remember Luke rocking up and the first thing I noticed was his blonde curly hair! He tried to impress me by showing me Felix Baumgartner jumping from space, but had to use my phone as he still had an old Nokia! (haha).”

For the bride, a gown from Grace Loves Lace was an easy decision, she tells “As soon as I was engaged I started looking for the perfect dress! I’ve always loved the style of Grace Loves Lace and as soon as I came across the Sia I knew it was the one! So much so I immediately stopped looking. The only Grace Loves Lace store in Australia is on the Gold Coast, so I booked a flight and flew over just to try it on. I didn’t even need to though, as soon as I put it on, I fell more in love with it and ordered it straight away. The staff at Grace Loves Lace were honestly so amazing and as my bridesmaids couldn’t attend, they made me feel so welcome!”

Ashleigh and Luke chose a seaside farm for their day, telling “Bunker Bay Farm is a private farm we came across when we were looking for our stylist. As soon as we saw it, we absolutely knew we had to get married there! It was so chill and had everything we love, the outdoors, the beach. the country. The venue is still one of the favourite parts of our wedding!”

Ashleigh walked down the aisle with her father to “Luckiest” by Ben Folds.

Confetti Days officiated the ceremony, of which the bride remembers “We wanted feeling! We didn’t have anything else included in our ceremony but our vows and a reading from the celebrant. We wanted it simple and to say exactly how we feel about each other, I almost lasted until the end before I cried! So close!”

Bright floral arrangements by Chiara Anne Floral Couture popped against an otherwise neutral colour palette, Ashleigh remarking “I wanted something bright and colourful, something that matched the way Luke and I look at life. I gave my florist almost no direction apart from the colours and she did the rest. The flower crowns are just amazing. So much better than I could have ever imagined!”

“Whenever anyone asks us what the best thing about our wedding was our answer is always the same… the people! We just loved having everyone we love in one place to celebrate our lovefest! We felt so much love!”

Guests enjoyed a feast in the sunset catered by Supper Road with a decadent wedding cake created by Bake the Cake Margaret River. “People cannot stop talking about the food! Supper Road just did so amazingly! We also had so many comments about our cake from Bake the Cake Margaret River! It was covered in gold and huge and just delicious and Hannah was just so personable and easy to work with!”

Ashleigh says “I really wanted to have sunset photos. So we had a slightly different timeline and Luke and I slipped away alone with our photographer and videographer and I loved it, I loved having that time for me and Luke to soak everything in by ourselves….and we also got some epic pics.”

Of their photographer, the bride remarks “We were referred to Folklore Weddings after we enquired with another photographer down south who was already booked. Her style is just amazing. She captures those in between moments full of feeling and we could not be happier with her! She made us feel so at ease during the day and I think everyone can tell from the photos how comfortable we felt and how much fun we had with her!”

“We loved getting to see everything Luke and I love come together in one special day! Your wedding really is a reflection of yourselves and we couldn’t be happier with how ours was on the day. I feel like it reflected our outgoing, chilled outlook on life perfectly.”

Of their first dance, Ashleigh explains “We chose Jack Johnson ‘Better Together’ I feel it matches our no-nonsense personalities and it was perfect!”

Mullermind Creative captured this beautiful film of the day, the rolling green hills the most magical backdrop for the film to unfold.
