Lisa & Leigh

Bunker Bay is one of those spots that is almost too good to be true – rugged coastline, stunning blue waters and white sands – what better place for a celebration? Luckily, Lisa and Leigh who chose a beautifully modern and relaxed Bunker Bay wedding certainly agreed; the pair hired a beach house for their wedding weekend right on the water. With photographer Bianca Kate Photography capturing it all, it was a wedding made of magic.

Lisa and Leigh met after a little match-making from friends. Lisa tells, “I was at one of my best friend’s 30th birthdays and a couple of her friends, along with their husbands, decided to try and match-make me by showing me photos of their single friends via Facebook. Without my knowledge, my phone number was passed onto Leigh and a couple of weeks later we went on our first date at Scarborough Beach Bar, where I chatted Leigh’s ears off for five hours! On our fourth date at Easter time he drove from Jurien Bay to Mandurah (3.5 hrs) to spend the day with my family and I – it was the first time he met them all – and once he arrived he handed out Easter eggs and gifts that he had purchased for my whole family! It was that day that I knew this guy was for me.”

The bride chose a beautiful, long-sleeve, Rue de Seine gown from The Bridal Atelier, noting, “I am one of those women who love things a little off-centre and my wedding dress was no exception! I fell in love with the label Rue De Seine. I fell in love with the ‘Avril’ gown as soon as I saw it on their Instagram page and knew I had to have it. I contacted Rue De Seine and got a reply email from the director Michael who was just amazing with helping me locate this dress, arrange a fitting and making sure that I could get this dress in the small time frame that I had. I flew to Sydney for a quick stopover (3 hrs) where I tried the gown on at The Bridal Atelier and, as soon as I put it on, fell in love! Once I received the dress, I was unsure about the size and Rue De Seine arranged a skype meeting to make sure I had the right size. I can’t recommend their service enough! They made me feel like they cared from start to finish and I felt amazing on the day!”

The couple chose to have a first look before their ceremony; complete with four-legged friends. The bride explains, “Leigh has a dog called Betty and we wanted her to be part of the day, so we had first look photos so that we could have photos with her on the day! It also gave Leigh and I a moment together and calmed any nerves before we had our ceremony.”

The couple chose their very favourite people to stand beside them on the day, remarking, “The groomsmen were Jay and Ben, two legends who Leigh classes as brothers. As a trio, their friendship is one in a million and when they’re all together, anything is possible.
My bridesmaids were Jessica who I met in Bali when I was 16, Jaclyn who I went to high school with and Sarah who, when I lived in Sydney, became my family away from home. These ladies are the sisters I never had and they have always been there for me. I love them dearly.”

Flowers For Mrs Harris created beautiful blush and red bouquets with greenery for the day. The bride tells, “Susie at Flowers for Mrs Harris was exceptional! I am so indecisive and she was just so amazing with helping us and with putting my mind at ease with the look I was after for our wedding. I wanted natural, local flowers that had some forest greens with the gorgeous silvery green of eucalyptus leaves, pampas grass and the king protea. I went with garlands for the tables and the most amazing arrangements for our arbour. Susie nailed it! The flowers were stunning!”

Bunkers Beach House hosted the weekend’s festivities. Lisa tells, “We chose Bunkers Beach House as we wanted to have our wedding somewhere down in the south-west and somewhere that would be relaxed and match the feel we were after for our big day. Leigh is a huge ocean lover and, with the venue being on the water, it fit us so well. We had our ceremony here on the deck outside facing the ocean as well as our reception inside. The weather was the first weekend in weeks that the sun was out and the weather was sensational. We even had whales jumping around in the background (the best!)
Radhna at Bunkers Beach House was amazing and really made us feel at ease.”

The bride walked down the aisle with her father to John Mayer’s “XO”.

The couple chose Confetti Days to officiate their ceremony, Lisa remembering, “Our ceremony was so relaxed, Leigh and I wrote our own vows that neither of us had heard until the day. It was so special and one of my favourite moments of our day.
We had one of my dear friends, Natalie, do a reading about love, she had called me up the week beforehand and cried reading it to me. I love that it was just as special to her as it was to us.”

Confetti was the bride’s favourite detail of the day. “I loved the shower of confetti as we walked away as husband and wife! I just remember the feeling of a happiness I had never felt, I couldn’t wait to marry Leigh and to be husband and wife walking under a cloud of colour and seeing the huge smiles on our loved ones was just the best!”

Of their photographer, Lisa tells, “Our photographer is a dear friend of Leigh’s and, even before we were engaged, he had told me that Bianca would be our photographer! She’s such a beauty inside and out and I love that she thinks outside the square. She did such an amazing job, we love her!”

Guests were guided to their seats with personalised polaroids says the bride, “For our place cards we did individual polaroid pictures of each guest! We used photos of them with their families or of a past memory of theirs. Everyone loved them and were able to take them home with them.”

Guests took home small paper packets of seeds as wedding favours.

The couple chose two songs for their first dance, Lisa notes, “We chose to go for a melody, we started with Otis Redding ‘These Arms of Mine’ and then went into a fun track that represented our relationship – Luther Vandross, ‘Never Too Much’. We listened to Luther in the car leading up to the wedding and whenever it was on we both would sing and dance around like crazy!”

The beautiful film of the day was captured by Rob Gibbon Films. My favourite part? The first look of course!
