Jasmine & Matt

Meeting at an 18th birthday party, Jasmine and Matt’s teenage romance was the stuff of yesteryear – MSN messenger, a few too many drinks and a few too many visits by Matt to Jasmine’s work before the couple finally made it official. They wed after Matt surprised Jasmine by proposing in the rain, with a backdrop of city lights on their eight-year anniversary,

Captured beautifully by Black Bird Tale, the couple chose a day that was romantic and relaxed, saying their vows in the country on a coastal farm.

The bride wore a beautiful lace gown designed by Pallas Couture, noting “I chose my dress because it made me feel so special and glamorous! I felt like I was in a bed of petals with the laser cut silk which was just perfect for our outdoor wedding. I adored the romantic look of the light subtly shining through the skirt. I also loved the feeling of the fitted bodice paired with the split which allowed me to move and dance so freely. The experience of choosing and developing my dream dress will always be so special to me because I got to do it all with my beautiful mum and it was like our achievement once it was finished.”

The couple chose Busselton’s Old Broadwater Farm for the celebration, explaining “It’s a gorgeous property in Busselton which has two old cottages, a large poplar tree and a marquee surrounded by beautiful gardens. The farm, which is exclusively yours for the day, has so many gorgeous spots for photos on the grounds as well as in the wetlands nearby.”

Jasmine remembers “My father walked me down the aisle to ‘Sweet Disposition’ by the Temper Trap which was sung by our acoustic guitarist.”

Andrew Pickering performed the ceremony. “Our ceremony was personal but still light-hearted and humorous. In preparation for our wedding, our celebrant had us complete a questionnaire together about our love story which he used to write our ceremony. It was a nice surprise because neither of us knew what each other’s answers were until the ceremony,” tells the bride. She adds, “We also wanted to include our families as much as possible so our one-year-old nephew who was the ring bearer ‘drove’ to the end of the aisle in his electric car remote-controlled by two of my brothers who walked alongside him. Next, our three-year-old niece was our flower girl, she was guided down the aisle by my other brother. Finally, our mothers too completed the signing for us.”

“It was all so special! From relaxing and getting our hair and make-up done to pottering around the grounds throughout the day completing the final styling touches. One of my favourite moments of our wedding was sharing our vows and our whole ceremony because it was so personal and was so lovely to tell each other how we feel in front of everyone we love.”

Tells the bride, “One of my favourite photos would have to be of Matt and I walking back down the aisle at the end of our ceremony with our guests cheering and showering us with rose petals.”

The couple’s dog, Leila, was a special inclusion for the day, says Jasmine. “After our ceremony we had photos with her and she stayed all night being spoilt with cuddles and food from our guests. She even got to stay overnight in the cottage with us.”

Of their photographer, Jasmine remarks, “Maz made us feel so relaxed in front of the camera. She was so lovely and mostly focused on capturing the moment without us even knowing she was there but when it came to having our bridal party and family photos she gave us plenty of direction to get the shots that we wanted. I am still in awe of the many stunning shots and special moments that she captured – every time I go through our photos I find more and more favourites!”

Jasmine notes “With the help of my bridesmaids, family and the venue staff I was lucky enough to style the reception and ceremony. One of my favourite DIY projects was our seating chart, a free-standing mirror which I stained and wrote on with a white paint marker. For our centrepieces we arranged the florals into jars and vases that I had collected, my bridesmaids styled the bridal table and I wrote the table numbers and place cards. For the ceremony, my bridesmaids arranged the florals along the aisle and the rose petals into paper doily cups which I prepared.”

It was all about the sweet treats for the bride, who created a magnificent cake table with her family. She tells “I loved the edibles that our family and I made to share the love with our guests. This included our wedding cake by my mum, the chocolate fudge heart bonbonniere that I made, and the DIY dessert table. For the dessert table, I made raw deserts, my aunty made jars of tiramisu and my mother-in-law provided traditional Croatian sweets. We were also lucky enough to have my father in law’s Merlot as our wedding wine.”

The newlyweds chose two songs for their first dance, remembering “Our first dance was to ‘Heaven’ by Bryan Adams then ‘I love you always forever’ by Donna Lewis. We didn’t prepare a dance so we had no idea what we were doing and just laughed with each other as we winged it!”

A beautiful film of the day was captured by Reece Woo.
