When I heard Polka Dot Bride was celebrating all things ‘cake’ this month, I’m not going to lie, I was a little excited. A cake, in any form is a celebration, simply by virtue of its being. A birthday cupcake delivered by a thoughtful friend, a Christmas Cake shared with loved ones and of course, the wedding cake which is woven with all the love and tradition of the day. As such, I wanted to created a cake topper tutorial that didn’t mess with the simplicity of the cake itself. This tutorial, for the record, is my simplest yet with only two materials and four steps.  And yet it manages to create a striking declaration of celebrated love.  Enjoy!

You Will Need:

Gold Foil Alphabet Stickers (We found ours at Kmart)
Skewers

Step One. Decide what you would like to display as your cake topper.  We have used ‘love’ but depending on your preference you could use your initials, a simple ‘I Do’ or a celebratory word such as ‘cheers’ or ‘hooray’.  Peel off one of each letter of your chosen word, carefully.

Step Two. Arrange your letters, right side down on a clean piece of paper.  When you arrange them to create the topper, they will need to overlap slightly so the word becomes one piece. Take your time, don’t be hasty with this step.

Step Three. Place two skewers onto the adhesive side of the foil letters.

Step Four. Carefully place the second lot of foil letters carefully and one at a time over the original letters.

Ms Zigzag says: I love a simple tutorial that only uses a couple of items, but comes together to have a dramatic effect.

I’m happiest in a home bustling with conversation and music, sitting at a beautifully decorated table surrounded by good friends and delicious food – with a glass of champagne in hand, of course!
