“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast”
In a world where taking oneself, especially in weddings, not so seriously, there is room for imagination, whimsical ideas and plenty of dreaming. So today, we’re honouring the make-believe with his gorgeous editorial of whimsical Alice In Wonderland wedding inspiration.
Dreamt up on a childhood favourite by wedding planner and stylist Rachel of Bubbles and Bouquets, she tells “The inspiration for this shoot was Alice In Wonderland, a story I grew up loving. I loved the wonder, mystery and craziness of the story and wanted to see if I could recreate the same feelings in a styled shoot wedding. I focused on the beautiful chaotic setting and the style emerged from there.”
With Kristie Carrick Photography and The Mountain Folk Films picking up their cameras at the beautiful waterside venue of Q Station, (in crazy Summer heat) the team set about creating their wonderland setting. A lush wall of greenery (by Pop Up Gardens) acted as a backdrop. The table, surrounded by Rustic Character white wooden chairs, was laid with tiered cake stands and pastel pieces from Pretty Pedestals and Royal Tea, of pastel, coloured blooms by Wild Dahlia Florals, sat beneath hanging, flower-filled teapots and tops and saucers from Royal Tea.
Guests were welcomed with floral filled stationery from Little Plum. And if there ever was a more appropriate cake for a wedding inspired by Alice In Wonderland, than Cake From The Heart hit it out of the park. A five-tier topsy turvy cake in pastel hues, featured, of course, a clock gilded in gold. Of course, it could not be the only sweet, cookies written with words, lined the tabletop amongst bunnies and inviting tubes of blue vodka, paying homage to even the tiniest of Alice details.
Our Alice, Grace Ireland, took us to dreamland in two whimsical gowns designed by Angela Osagie. specifically for the shoot. The first played to traditional Alice, the sweet cap sleeves, a line silhouette and pale blue bow a nod to the story. The second, a little more whimsical with beautiful pastel pink with 3D floral petals that added plenty of fun texture. Her look was completed with a sweet braid and soft curled up-do and natural, pink blush makeup by Artistry Co. Her groom James Pralija dressed in a dapper suit (complete with pale blue bowtie)) by Luxury Plus.
“We wanted to focus on creating a space that was very mystical and chaotic whilst making sure it stayed aesthetically enchanting” tells Rachel, adding, “I choose pastel colours because I wanted to complement the dark green garden styling with the pastel tablescape. Additionally, I envisioned this as a tea party with lots of decadent sweets just like the mad hatter tea party scene which I believe we successfully achieved.”
And what more can we do than end our tale “‘Have I gone mad? I’m afraid so. You‘re entirely Bonkers. But I will tell you a secret, All the best people are.”
The Mountain Folk Films captured the sweet whimsy in their beautiful film of the day.
