Celebrating all things black tie we wanted to make sure we covered all our bases and this beautiful makeup (and accompany hairstyle!) from the dream team behind our rose quartz style wedding inspiration shoot seemed the most natural way to do it!

We took to one of Sydney’s most grand venues, The Refectory & Drawing Room – Host Co – University of Sydney with photographer  Birch & Wattle, coordinator and fashion stylist Katherine Eleyce, hair and makeup artist Amy Chan Hair & Makeup Artistry and styling and floral designer Form Over Function to create four distinct looks, with our beautiful couple, real-life Polka Dot readers Daniela and Rodrigo.

Daniele, the gorgeous bride to be, has beautiful chestnut brown hair, so our team played it up, for the most formal of looks with a deep, neutral eye and pretty pop of pink as a nod back to the Pantone hue.

Today,  Amy Chan Hair & Makeup Artistry joins us to share the tips and tricks (complete with beauty toolbox!) for creating this black tie wedding makeup look for yourself.

As with any makeup look- the base is key! Using DMKC Shinto Foundation, buff your foundation into the skin using a sponge, brush, or if you prefer- your fingers! Taking time to get your base right will not only ensure a flawless finish but also ensure it can last all day.

To cover any dark circles or blemishes, the next step is to take a concealer (we used the DMKC Corrector,) and work it in, blending thoroughly over the imperfections you want to cover. For tiny spots, consider using a tiny concealer brush for accuracy. Make sure everything is well blended!

A translucent powder is a surefire way of making sure your base lasts all day, but you don’t lose that wedding day glow. We set our base with the glow of the DMKC Translucent Powder, using a big, fluffy powder brush to set the look.

Next up- brows! Because this look is formal and a little dramatic, beautiful brows definition are something worth spending time on! Using a pencil,( Givenchy Eyebrow Couture Definer in #01) fill the brows in quick, short strokes, filling any sparse areas until you have the shape you are happy with.

This look is all about the glamorous glow, so add a little highlighter (we used Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector In “Pearl“,) beneath the eyebrow and blend out to really define the look.

In keeping with this look’s rosy hues, choose a pink based blush with gold undertones and blend out along the apples of the cheeks with a soft brush… We chose Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Colour in “Peony“, but a similar blush is Nars Dolce Vita.

Next onto eyes! Although the look is dramatic, the tones are romantic, sticking with the more purple toned, deeper shades. For this eye look, we chose the Urban Decay Naked Three Palette. Starting with smokey deep taupe/mauve (we used “Darkside”), work the colour all over the eye. Don’t forget a little sparkle! We went in with a shimmering mauve shade, (we used “Buzz”) working the colour all over the lid and blending out.

Finally, take your darkest shade (we used  “Blackheart”) and work this into your outer corner for a deep, smokey effect. Then, work it into your lashline with a smudging brush to add to the smoke. Take the shade again, and work it into the lower lash line for extra definition.

If you’re after drama, add a pair of false lashes at this step (we used lashes from Eyelure)  and go in with an inky black liquid liner for a strong eyeliner to really define the eye and make the lashes look full (we chose Stila “Stay All Day” Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner).

To finish the eyes, choose a black mascara that gives you plenty of gorgeous volume! Take your time to ensure each lash is completely coated, working your brush as you comb the lashes. For our mascara, we worked with Maybelline “Lash Sensational” Mascara.

Choose a deep lip tone for this look to amp it up. Using a brush for precise application, fill in the lips with your chosen shade. We wanted to reflect back to the pink quartz inspiration so chose Shiseido Rouge Rouge Lipstick in “Poppy” to finish off our bride’s lips. The deep tone a little step up from a natural shade, but adding a touch of glam for the black-tie look.
