Tara & John

Sometimes, life has the funniest way of working out. Tara and John first met as nine-year-olds at Sunday School. There was even “dating” for one entire week when they were both 14. But somehow, it was a number of years before these two finally figured out there was nobody else they’d rather be with, and then? It resulted in this. A stunning sunset engagement session with photographer Nick Skinner that made the most of the beautiful Flinders setting. Stunning clifftops, beautiful forests and of course, that golden light, all set the stage for their tale to unfold.

The groom-to-be went to plenty of trouble as he set up the proposal. Tara remembers, “It was incredibly special, John got all our closest friends, family, pets and even Harry Potter involved.

He made a scavenger hunt taking us back to all our special dates and ‘spots’ over the last five years. Each location would have a Harry Potter letter delivered by one of our friends or family with a riddle inside and I had to use the clues to figure out the next location.
It was really quite special and took us down memory lane, of our first date, to where he asked me out, to our favourite restaurant and to our favourite date spot.

Finally the last location was my backyard where we first said we loved each other. The house had a trail of rose petals and candles and a wall full of old photos of us. His little cousins had both our dogs on the leash with words saying ‘Marry Me?’ I said yes and all our family and closest friends burst out from inside the house. I still can’t believe how thoughtful and special that day was.”

On what she loves about her future husband, the bride to remarks, “I love his goofiness, his kindness, his smile and the goodness he pours out to the world.”

“I love her dorkiness, her eyes, her big heart and her butt,” tells John, on what he loves about Tara.

“He is very down to earth and easy to work with,” tell Tara and John of photographer Nick. “John and I are complete dorks when it comes to taking photos that are not meant to be ‘silly or goofy’ photos, but Nick somehow made it work for us. He turned our dorkiness into magic in the engagement shoot.”
