We asked Catherine of Gathered Floral five questions in five minutes:
What is your favourite reward after a big working day?
Being a florist, my days are quite long and I often start by waking at 4.00am so that I can get to the flower market to buy the freshest blooms. My favourite reward is to hop across the road and buy a Nutella muffin from Papa’s at Haberfield. As I run a retail flower shop as well as a wedding floral business, I often work long days, so I need to pace myself on these muffins as they are super amazing. My other favourite is enjoying a glass of Marlborough or Margaret River Sauvignon blanc with my husband (before I fall asleep early!).
Your favourite getaway weekend?
Without a doubt, head to Eugowra in rural NSW (it’s a 5-hour drive) to my friend’s sheep property and enjoy hours of laughing, eating, chatting and drinking wine.
What is your most prized possession?
I have kept all of the cards and written messages from my husband before we were married. They are priceless. Receiving a handwritten note in today’s electronic world is so rare. I think it’s been decades since the last time he wrote me a letter though!
Cafe Sydney – the views and the amazing food; I have celebrated a lot of milestones there.
What do you enjoy most about being in the wedding industry?
The best moment is when I hand over the bridal bouquets to the bride and she wells up with emotion (always happy emotions). I have given enormous thought to every bloom, every stem placement. It’s an honour to contribute to the couple’s most special day.
