Alia & Clint
There is something to be said for a simple wedding. A wedding which, planned in only a few months, cuts out the fuss, cuts out the stuff that means nothing to you and instead you focus on everything that you love.
Clint and Alia married just seven months after they were engaged. “Only having a short time to plan a wedding, surprisingly it wasn’t as stressful as we thought,” shares the bride who, along with her husband-to-be, booked photographer Peggy Saas and set about planning a day that was intimate, simple and at its heart, very Alia and Clint.
For these two, it was a solid friendship that paved the way for their love story. Conversation at a New Year’s Eve party hinting to them both that, perhaps, there was more than a little something there. A week-long holiday for the groom-to-be’s birthday proved just the moment for the question to be popped. “I took Clint away for his 30th birthday; a week down south. It was so beautiful. On the drive back to Perth he asked me to cover my eyes as he had something to show me. We stopped in a small town called Burekup, when I opened my eyes there was a huge message board. It said ‘will you marry me?’ It was such a lovely surprise I couldn’t believe he went to all that effort.”
Alia decided on a gorgeous, white sequin, long sleeve gown from Karen Willis Holmes. She remarks, “They have such a beautiful range which made it so hard to choose. But once I tried on the ‘Cassie’ gown I knew instantly it was the one. I’ve always wanted a wedding dress with sleeves, and the beading and sequin detail was so detailed yet elegant.”
The groom wore a multi-toned suit from Politix.
Alia and Clint wanted a garden ceremony and the beautiful Sunken Gardens at the University of Western Australia was just the setting. “[It’s] a small garden within a University with so much fresh air and greenery,” tells Alia.
The bride’s mother adorned the chairs down the centre of the aisle with fresh flowers.
Alia and Clint were married by Andrew Pickering. The bride remembering, “We chose Andrew as our Celebrant and he did an amazing job making us feel so comfortable and calming down our nerves.”
“Peggy did such an incredible job capturing every little moment; she was seriously out of this world. We were so excited to get back our photos and were just amazed at how magical they were,” tells the bride of the couple’s photographer.
Bouquets of creamy roses with marsala-toned flowers were styled by Rose & Bud. “Rose & Bud created the most amazing, boho, dreamy bouquets. Probably one of the things I most loved about the entire wedding. They were so helpful and accommodating to my ideas.”
The Guildford Hotel hosted the newlyweds and their guests for a cocktail reception, Alia tells, “It was built in the 1800’s and is a heritage-listed building. The inside is incredible. Exposed brick walls, timber flooring and wooden furnishings giving it a romantic rustic feel.”
The reception was filled with food and dancing – cocktail style! The bride explains, “I knew from the start I wanted a cocktail wedding, where guests could walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. I didn’t have a particular theme, but loved the rustic feel that came through in choosing the venue.”
“We chose ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay. We had our musician sing it which made it more intimate. Clint got very emotional while dancing which was just that bit special.’
