Rebecca & Alex

“We were actually set up by a mutual friend from work.” Tells Rebecca of how she met her then future husband. “It was simple and easy. I had just finished night shift and Alex had messaged me and organised a lunch date! I was tired, but thought why not, and never looked back.”
And that blind date? Well, it led to so much more, a stunning garden ceremony in the beautiful season of Autumn, a reception that included dancing under a canopy of fairy lights and a story that we can’t wait to share! Lucky for us, Kristie Carrick Photography was there to document every moment for us to share with you today.
The proposal was a complete surprise! Rebecca fills us in. “I had NO idea Alex was going to pop the question! I had a lovely girls’ trip booked with my mum and two sisters in Queensland, and Alex thought it would be nice to continue the holiday for a week, so he flew up and met me, and we travelled to Byron Bay. We travel there often so I thought absolutely nothing of it, and one morning being the early risers we are, thought it would be nice to walk up to the lighthouse to see the sunrise, as we’d done before.. nothing too obvious to me!
We got to the top, and Alex said “Stand there and I’ll take a photo of you”, so I got my photo, and then he asked for one too (alarm bells should have rung here, as this guy hates a selfie, and has definitely nailed the insta husband role, but I didn’t think twice) when I turned around with the camera, he was on one knee! What a dream! My favourite guy, in our favourite place! The rest was history! (breakfast croissants and coffee of course!!)

Rebecca chose a modern gown and veil designed by Karen Willis Holmes. She tells “I was searching for the perfect gown to suit both my ceremony and reception venue, in my first look at David Jones level 7 Bridal suite, I found my dream gown! I then went on to book an appointment with KWH in Alexandria, where dreams became a reality. The DYG Shelly/Samantha was the pick for me. Quirky, classic, and Chic all in one, which suited both my ceremony, reception, and my fun loving vibe to enjoy my day in comfort and love.”

Rebecca’s bridesmaids each chose their own dresses. “I was more relaxed than I thought I would be actually.. when it came to my bridesmaids and choosing their dresses, I simply allowed them to be themselves, for I know my love for them wasn’t about wearing matching dress and feeling uncomfortable, but allowing their personality to shine through and adding a bit of love and light to my day. So they all chose their own dresses over time, and the pictures are enough to show!” tells Rebecca.

The Grounds Florals by Silva styled all of the wedding day flowers, to Rebecca’s request of Autumnal tones. She explains “The flowers were a no-brainer, with my wedding held at The Grounds, why not have Silva,  be a part of my day, and woweee, we were not disappointed. I simply gave her my vibe, and colour scheme (getting married in May) deep saturated blooms, with pops of sand, and her absolute dream team created our masterpieces. They helped to tie in my girls, and the Men’s buttonholes were classy and eye-catching. They were bold, moody, classic, and just the right amount of love in each bouquet.”

As a nod to the groom and his late father’s love of vintage cars, the bride and groom travelled in a vintage Rolls Royce, the bridal party in a vintage Kombi van.

Rebecca and Alex chose the beautiful Centennial Parklands for their ceremony, telling “Our Ceremony was held at Centennial Parklands (Duck Pond). My husband chose this spot, as he had fond memories of his late father from growing up and being there. It was a beautiful addition to our wedding.”

Rebecca and Alex combined modern rustic vibes for their wedding styling, Rebecca explaining “My overall vibe was rustic and classic. After all, as an emergency nurse, I still needed some sort of crazy in my life. My inspiration was to be as true to myself and my style as much as possible. After all, Pinterest and Instagram can become overwhelming with beautiful weddings, but somehow my boards and likes became a mismatch of classic, rustic and bohemian weddings. I simply fell in love with it all. I began to decipher what I really wanted, and that was simply to have fun, be happy, and allow my bride tribe to feel like themselves as well.”

The Grounds Patisserie created a decadent cake, two layers of chocolate cake and one layer of vanilla bean cake topped with gold leaf, fresh figs and macarons. Tells Rebecca “I simply sent in a few photos of inspiration and gave them the reins! It was stunning to look at, and even better to eat! (we took the top tier home.. it didn’t last long though.. we’re not very traditional).”

Guests were gifted chocolate favours created by Bec Bakes Cronulla. “She is absolutely amazing at desserts, and it was a no-brainer! We had personalised Belgium chocolate shards, white, dark and milk, with pistachios, raspberries and crushed Oreos. Absolutely delicious! (we ordered a few extra.. just in case.)”

Rebecca and Alex chose The Grounds of Alexandria for their reception celebration, remarking “The most important thing to us, was the food, alcohol and music! The trifecta we like to call it. You could have all of your loved ones in one place, with good food, music and alcohol and you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! So we splurged a little on our venue, but I really think it saved us in the end.. (our sanity I mean!).”

The dancing and sparkler filled exit, complete with fairy lights, remains one of the bride’s favourite parts of the day. She shares “The best part about our day (although it’s hard to pick) would have to be standing at the walkway at the end of our reception, under an arbour full of fairy lights with our guests lined up either side with sparklers and smiles, gripping my new husband’s hand and waltzing our way out, to begin our forever. There really is nothing quite like the love and happiness you experience on your wedding day, having everyone you love, all in one big room.”

A big congratulations to our newlyweds! Thank you for taking the time to share your story! Thank you also to Kristie Carrick Photography & Karen Willis Holmes for sharing today’s beautiful wedding!
