Vanessa & Keplar

Folks, grab your finest dress, your best bow tie from your wardrobe because Vanessa and Keplar’s modern black tie Perth wedding is giving us ALL the glam vibes. Pairing their black tie style with an elegant clear marquee, the pair filled with the space full of gold and black details (those gold candlesticks with black taper candles? Our favourite!) and blossomed it up with gorgeous blush Australian natives. The beauty, all captured by Izo Photography weaves its way together for one stunning story that we can’t wait to share!

Although these two married in October, it’s the festive season that holds their magic, Vanessa explains. “We met on New Year’s Day 01/01/2014 during a boozy day out at Cuban Club (at the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club, Dalkeith). Keplar proposed one Christmas day as we were opening presents with the family. It was my last gift to receive for the morning! Definitely, the best gift I ever did receive for Christmas!”

The groom and groomsmen were dressed by Tony Barlow.

The bride stayed true to her own personal styled with a two-piece number. “Growing up I have always worn skirts and tops and so I fell in love with the Martina Liana separates range. I found the skirt first at Tuscany Bridal, and then had the top made by the sweetest dress designer Soosee Lee of The Bridal Garden, who I found in a gorgeous bridal store across the road from my hairdresser. I clicked with her so well and it was such a fun experience. We are still great friends today.”

The couple chose  Quarry Amphitheatre, the very first venue they saw for both their ceremony and reception. “We fell in love with it straight away” tells Vanessa. “It was so stunningly beautiful, and we loved that it was a musical venue, something a bit different, not your typical wedding venue, and also very close to home.”

The processional? Unforgettable for one very special reason. “We chose an original song written by Kep and myself, “The Luckiest”, performed by Coby Grant. My Dad walked me down the aisle.”

Belinda Clinton – Love Your Way officiated the ceremony, of which was capped off with “Kep’s sister reading a poem that she had written for us.”

The day was filled with special touches from the newlyweds’ favourite people, even including the arch they married under! Tells Vanessa “We had so many favourites, but our most special were the little details from our friends and family. To name a few, the arbour that was made by Kep’s brother, the cakes that were made by my cousin, the butterflies organized and released by friends and family, a poem written by Kep’s sister, our friends who sang our favourite songs. It all made it really personal for us.”

Vanessa and Keplar enlisted DUO Events Creative Studio to help them execute their vision for their day, the team working on everything from the planning, florals, styling and even signage. “We were very fortunate to have some really special friends playing for us throughout the night, and we thought the musical venue and cocktail style wedding would really suit this and give more of a festival/party vibe (we really just wanted one big party!). Our only brief to DUO was; can the music take centre stage; and we love boho; and black! We weren’t sure on how to do this (numbers and football are more our forte!) but DUO was all over it – they called it Contemporary Boho and we just loved what they created and how they pulled it all together.”

DUO Events Creative Studio worked to create a lush floral look of metallics and Australian natives. “The florals were based on the native greenery motif on the invites. DUO took inspiration from the graphics and the Quarry is surrounded by bushland so they played on this and then introduced feature native flowers like the King White Protea, Pink Proteas, Geraldton Wax and Blushing Brides.”

“We were so lucky to have all outstanding vendors, we would actually list everyone as our favourites if we could” raves Vanessa.

The newlyweds took to the dance floor for their debut to “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur, performed live by Kings and Queens Duo

The day honoured many parts of the newlywed’s heritage. “Being half Chinese Singaporean, we wanted to bring a bit of my mum’s tradition to the wedding” explains Vanessa “We held a Chinese tea ceremony a few days before the wedding. On the wedding day, my Auntie Jen taught everyone the meaning behind the “Yam-Seng” toast. We had to improvise on the traditional approach as we were not seated at individual tables, so instead all of our guests yelled this loudly together a few times, and it was a lot of fun.”

Vanessa and Keplar enlisted  Luke Baker to capture their day in motion, beautifully put to the actual song played at the wedding. “We are really glad we had a videographer for our ceremony. We heard from a few people that this is what they wished they had done, and we are so glad we took their advice as this is definitely one of our most favourite things now to look back on,” notes Vanessa.

A big congratulations to you both Vanessa and Keplar! Thank you for sharing your stories with us! Thank you to DUO Events Creative Studio and Izo Photography for sharing all of today’s beauty!
