We could not think of a better way to kick off a year of feel-good weddings than with the new collections from the household name designer Vera Wang. And what better way to start the year than with a collection packed full of beautiful bursts of colour?

The Vera Wang Spring and Fall collections are empowering. They’re not your traditional coloured wedding gowns and – as the designer has never been afraid of doing her own, unique thing – Vera attracts brides who aren’t afraid of the non-traditional.

For Spring 2019, gowns are dramatic  – there are layers upon layers of not just one coloured tulle, but many. There are oversized fabric flowers, waistbands in contrasting hues and bows as the designer draws from her love the dramatic works of Dutch master Johannes Vermeer (famous for his painting of ‘The Girl With The Pearl Earring’). ‘I wanted to explore translucency and movement, and obviously colour, but in a new way,’ she notes.

Fall 2019, is a little more subtle, but no less packed with colour. Inspired by the grandeur and luxury of King Louis XIV and the grand Versailles Palace, this collection takes on a decidedly regal flavour.  High caped necklines, elegant sleeves and dramatic tulle skirts make an impact. The shades used here are more muted, in deep milk coffee tones, complemented with golds and dusky blues. For this collection, Vera notes, “The mixture of the nude [with white] became very important, you see the body in the body.”

The Vera Wang Spring collection is available from this month while Fall 2019 hits stores mid-2019.
