Some people might think that asking for your hand in marriage is the big question. Actually, the even bigger question is asking your bridesmaids to be your ‘wingwomen’ for the big day! Whether you choose a friend, a relative or even a colleague, your wedding crew will be on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Here are our top 5 tips on choosing your team, and popping the question!

1. Choose wisely

While YOU get along well with (hopefully) all of your bride tribe, it is also important that they get along well with each other. They don’t need to be besties, but if they can at least be polite and civil throughout the coming months, it makes life just so much easier all round!

Think about the people and relationships which really matter to you and your significant other. While you may feel pressure to ask a family member, or return the favour for somebody else, it really needs to be your choice, and only those who you’re happy to have by your side!

2. Face to face is always best.

Steer clear of texting them with “Will U B My MOH?” Tempting as it may be to get a response straightaway, sitting down and having an actual, real-life conversation gives them the opportunity to ask questions and you to give them information on what will be required!

3. Think about what their questions and concerns before you ask them.
It’s always a bit awkward to talk about costs and expenses, but upfront is always best. If you’re expecting your bridal party to pay for their own dresses, hair, accessories, etc. it’s best to be clear and upfront about it. That way, they have a few months to plan arrangements (hello, afterpay!) or save what they need. Or, if you think they may struggle to afford it, advise them whether you can pay for part, or all of it on their behalf.

4. Make it fun…
These days “Will you be my bridesmaid?” gift boxes are all the rage. They can be filled with plenty of fun additions – think confetti, party poppers, streamers, or something they can use again like a scented candle, bottle of champagne or decadent chocolates.

5. What if they really don’t want to?
Well, that’s ok… it’s really not the end of the world. Try and understand their concerns, and respect their decision. It’s a big job, and not everyone is up for the challenge. Prepare yourself that they may just not really be that into it, and have a few options up your sleeve just in case!

… and once you’ve asked your bridal party and everyone’s just as excited as you are, be sure to celebrate! They don’t call it a bridal ‘party’ for nothing!
