With the cooler weather finally here and a smorgasbord of winter wedding ideas beginning to swirl about, toffee apples seemed like just the thing for a delicious DIY. Not the easiest, but impressive in looks and styling, caramel apples look gorgeous on a winter dessert table – or as name tag holders.

With full disclosure, my first try failed miserably. While my second lot worked beautifully, they weren’t as glossy the following day. As with all my tutorials, I highly recommend trying it out before the big event, so that you can see how successfully it works for you. Apples are in season and so tasty right now, so even for a small gathering, they are a gorgeous addition!

What You Will Need:

  • Small apples – available from most specialty grocery stores
  • Small wooden sticks
  • Cooling rack
  • Baking paper
  • Baking tray
  • Caramel – you can find many recipes for a good apple caramel online

Step 1. Give the apples a thorough wash, especially if they have been waxed. You may need to use hot water and vinegar. Once they are clean and dry, remove the stems, and firmly pop the stick into the core.

Step 2. Place the apples on top of the cooling rack, over the top of a sheet of baking paper. When the caramel is ready, place it next to the apples and, working quickly, dip each apple into the caramel. Place them quickly onto the cooling rack.

Step 3. Once the caramel has started to set, move the apples onto a sheet of baking paper on top of a baking tray, or flat surface. Once they have completely cooled, store in a dry and cool airtight container.

Display these tasty caramel apples on a beautiful dessert table, or use them as a styling tool on your tables for name tags. Toffee apples are yummy and add a sweet and fair like fun to any event!
