Amy and Paul
I live for weddings like today’s. Weddings where you barely need words to tell the stories because every single photo just pulls you in. The first look, the ugg boot filled dance floor, the joy and the tears. Amy and Paul wanted a wedding that was “Earthy, boho and simple”. Every part of their day was built around this – a relaxed ceremony, a tipi reception and plenty of love.
And those photos – there is something about the way Sophie Baker Photography plays with light that is utter magic, What a treat we have to share with you.
A little act of synchronicity brought these two together, Amy sharing “We both worked together at a theme park but in different departments. Turned out that we also lived on the same street and went to the same local pub where we started chatting. Even when we started dating, we were both too embarrassed to chat with each other at work!” The pair finally got it together, and when it was time, Paul waited for Amy’s birthday to pop the question. “Pauly took me and our pup Ivy on a surprise picnic for my birthday” remembers Amy. “I had no idea where we were going. We went to the beautiful Crams Farm in Uki where he got down on one knee and proposed. I actually thought at first that he was joking! It was such a beautiful setting and the best birthday surprise ever!”
“I chose the Evette Dress by Madi Lane” tells Amy. “It was floaty and comfortable and with bare feet, it was the perfect dress for our rainforest setting.” The bride adding gold earrings her mother had worn to her own wedding day a few years earlier.
Beautiful bouquets of natives were styled by Eden The Flower Shop. Amy says “We chose native bouquets with eucalyptus, wattle and proteas were perfect for our winter wedding and matched our theme perfectly.”
Paul and Amy met before their ceremony for a first look, the newlyweds raving endlessly about their chosen photographer Sophie. “Sophie was incredible” tells Amy. The photos she captured will be treasured forever! We have way too many favourite photos to choose from, Sophie Baker was incredible and we couldn’t have asked for better photos!”
Paul’s groomsmen each wore a wooden bowtie from Wood & Beau, which the groom had engraved.
Amy and Paul chose the banks of Hinze Dam for their ceremony.
Amy walked down the aisle with her father to “Black as Night” by Nahko Bear.
Amy and Paul chose Celebrant Lady Love to execute their vision for a laid back ceremony, telling “Our ceremony was very laid back and quite funny. Pauly being a bit of a joker, it was very entertaining for everyone as well as bringing some of them to tears. Annie was the most amazing celebrant and delivered our ceremony perfectly.”
Guests gathered at Amy and Paul’s Gold Coast home for a relaxed reception. “Our home was the perfect venue as its surrounded by trees with a big open grassy area. We hired a Tipi which was so perfect and filled it with fairy lights” explains the bride.
Not only was there amazing wedding cake by Evie May Cake Design, but the groom’s mum made a table full of cakes and slices for guests to devour, alongside Amy’s sister making a beautiful platter and dip.
The first dance was one of the bride and groom’s favourite parts of the night, for reasons that weren’t just about the dance. Amy explains “Our first dance was to “Can’t take my eyes off you” by Frankie Valley but the most special thing about it was that my dad Ben played and sang the song on his piano.”
And to finish today’s story off? A gorgeous film of the day captured by Lovedays Cinema.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us Amy and Paul! It was such a joy to share your stories. Thank you also to Sophie Baker Photography for today’s beautiful images.
