Jourdin & Travis

It was just eight weeks of wedding planning for Jourdin and Travis. The pair, after finding their dream venue at a wedding fair, wasted no time in booking the next available day – which turned out to be just two months away!

We always embrace rain on a wedding day, because there is something utterly romantic about huddling with guests to keep you dry, while you promise to love another forever.

Luckily these two agree, the downpour of their day taking no magic away from it, as evident in every beautiful image captured today by The Barefoot Photographer.

And while it almost didn’t happen for these two, we’re so glad that Jourdin realised there was a lot more to this friendship than she thought. She shares how the pair came to be. “We met through mutual friends. We would often see each other at gatherings- Australia Day, NYE celebrations. I was never interested in Travis. I always thought he was ‘just’ an electrician Haha. I was wrong – he turned out to be my best friend. Travis on the other end- apparently he thought I was really pretty.”

The proposal, also caught this bride to be completely by surprise, in the most comedic of ways. She fills us in. “It was a Sunday- we had gotten home to our fur baby after being at friends for dinner. We had just been teasing Travis about ‘putting a ring on it’ all night, so just the usual really. I was watching ‘I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here!’ (I love that show- and there was a really good ticker trial on). I raced to the bathroom to jump in the shower during the ad break. So I was about to jump in the shower when Travis yelled for me to ‘Come and look!’ Thinking it was our puppy learning a new trick I raced out, starkers, yes. And there he was on one knee, by the fish tank with the puppy sitting next to him. I squealed, ‘wait!! You can’t do this while I’m naked- and ran back to the bathroom to slip my dress back on- leaving him laughing on his knee. I ran back and said yes! To say I was surprised was an understatement!”

The bride found her gorgeous gown at Bridal By Aubrey Rose. “I had eight weeks to plan the wedding of our dreams. I had previously been to Bridal by Aubrey Rose and the girls were so beautiful, I knew that’s where I’d find the one. And so I did, hanging on the shelf- the perfect size- no alterations required. I had my mum, sister (MOH) and best friend (bridesmaid) with me & it couldn’t have been any simpler.”

The bride honoured her family with a few special tokens, explaining “My mum and dad are English and they always give a horseshoe at weddings. I had a beautiful silver horseshoe tied around my bouquet. Very close to my heart. My mum buttoned my dress up- this was a really special moment for us. I received a beautiful bracelet from my dad when he came to pick me up. It will be something I treasure forever.”

Jourdin and Travis chose the beautiful Wilkinson Gallery for their big day, telling “We got engaged in April and after attending a wedding convention in June I couldn’t stop thinking about Wilkinson Gallery. It was a bright, beautiful space, that we could make into our own. I spoke to Travis about some dates that were available (in August!) and we just jumped to the challenge. So the date was booked for August.

We chose Wilkinson Gallery as it was a bright white space with polished wood floorboards and high ceilings. There are 2 beautiful barn doors on each end – the backdrop for our altar. We had our ceremony outside (in the pouring rain!) and the barn door opened to the gallery for the reception. It was perfect.”

The bride walked down the aisle with her father, to The Dinner Singer performing “I Won’t Let You Go” by James Morrison.

Jourdin remembers, of the official part of the day. “We wanted to have a traditional ceremony but one that was fun for everyone. We wanted people to laugh, and be able to relate to the stories that were told. I think we managed to do this. There were so many people laughing. We also love F.R.I.E.N.D.S so there may have been a reference or two!”

Jourdin and Travis made sure to include one very special guest during their ceremony, which was officiated by Rebecca Roberts. Jourdin explaining  “Everything felt very special, to be honest. Probably THE most amazing thing was to have our dog there at the Ceremony. Seeing her there made the whole day that much more special. Willow was our dog of honour, and we couldn’t have imagined the day without her being there. We love her so much!”

The newlyweds loved working with their photographer Pete, telling “Pete – you were just perfect. We met Pete at the same convention as we saw Wilkinson Gallery. A dude was standing with his wife and gorgeous baby son and I just had to go over (I’m a midwife- I love babies!) He had a large (large) beard and I knew within a minute, he was the guy we wanted. I knew Travis, who is a little rustic, would get along with Pete and would be just the presence he needed on his wedding day. And I’m so glad I met him there!”

“It was so wet! If rain is good luck, then we must be very very lucky!! ” notes the bride. “Although it was wet, we didn’t care! I must have had the best wedding party- we were so cold, but almost all of the photos everyone is smiling from ear to ear or having a laugh!”

Jourdin and Travis enlisted The Native Posy Co to style their florals for the day, thanks to the help of the bride’s mother! Jourdin says “Well my mum makes friends with just about everyone she meets. And I’m so glad! She met a lovely lady at Lot One in Hillarys just a short walk from my family home. A lovely lady was dropping off some Australiana florals to the cafe for Mother’s Day. Mum, being her usual self befriended this lovely woman we would come to know as Sue, and the magic just happened from there.

Sue is such a beautiful soul and a very down to earth, caring woman. Proteas and eucalyptus were our wishes, and what beautiful bouquets were created. Sue was such a pleasure to work with and her attention to detail and her floral designs are just impeccable. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect florist. In fact, she was so much more, she became a friend.”

Guests were surprised with plenty of homemade goodies, tells the bride. “We made individual succulent plants for our guests to ‘Let Love Grow’ and my mum made Chutney with my Grandad’s much-loved recipe. We never got to meet him, so this was really meaningful to us. We also made limoncello test tubes shots for our guests- these were a huge hit!”

Guests dined on a feast catered by Ultimo Catering. Jourdin noting “AHmazing!! All the guests and I mean ALL the guests have commented on the food. It was so beautiful to look at, and it tasted as good as it looked. I would 100% use this amazing team again.”

The first dance? Casual but romantic for these two, tells Jourdin “Our first dance wasn’t too serious. Travis has never been much of a ballroom dancer! We slow danced to ‘Feels Like Home’ by Edwina Hayes. We asked that towards the end of the song, our mum and dads joined us on the floor. Our first dance ended with Travis dancing with his new mother in law and me dancing with my dad.”

A big congratulations to you both Jourdin and Travis! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us. Thank you also to The Barefoot Photographer for today’s beautiful images!
