Jenny & Aaron

You’d think after writing around thousands upon thousands of weddings and seeing thousands upon thousands of stories I would get sick of it. But I never do, because I adore every story, I adore seeing how a couple takes what they love, what is important to them and celebrates it.

That is exactly what today’s lovers, Jenny & Aaron did for their day. They were set on a garden ceremony, which was short and sweet – to allow them to maximise guest time. Then? Time for a reception at a restaurant known for its amazing menu and equally stunning industrial warehouse space. Just in line with the raw and natural vibes Jenny and Aaron so love themselves.

“Ours is a modern love story” tells Jenny of how these two came to be. “We met online through an app called “Coffee meets bagel”. I opened with a joke about Justin Bieber and fast forward 2.5 years, we got married and our first dance was to a live cover of Bieber’s track ‘Baby’ sung by Voli K (who then appeared on The Voice).”

It was on a glamping adventure that Aaron decided to drop to own knee. “For my birthday last year, Aaron convinced me that he was taking me on a glamping trip in the Blue Mountains. We turned up to a beautiful resort and spa instead and I was upset I only packed tent appropriate clothing! The perfect moment to propose presented itself at the birthday picnic that Aaron had organised, unfortunately, he was interrupted by rowdy champagne popping tourists who looked very settled for the afternoon, so we went back to the hotel room. I wanted to take a nap, however, Aaron couldn’t wait any longer, he got down on one knee and asked whether I was free for a concert and what I was doing for the rest of my life. Aaron had a custom proposal ring made by remodelling a pair of gold and diamond earrings. We celebrated with champagne when Aaron finally stopped crying.”

Aaron had his heart set on a morning suit, the groom and his groomsmen donning grey suits from Ferrari Formal.

Jenny went for an elegant wedding gown, finding her match at designer Sarah Joseph Couture. She tells “I wanted a simple and elegant lace dress that moulded to my body with a short train. I was lucky enough to find the perfect dress in the second store I went to and had an amazing dressmaker who worked on the alterations to make it fit perfectly.”

Those bright and beautiful blooms? The work of the bride herself, who explains “I made the bridal party bouquets and buttonholes myself along with the table florals for the reception. I am obsessed with flowers and even though it was a lot of extra work, it was also a part of the wedding I was always going to take on. I wanted the flowers to pop and went with a bright and vibrant colour palette choosing shades of red, burgundy and fuchsia.”

The bride’s friend pitched in to style the ceremony blooms, “My friend Casey from The Flur Collective did the amazing floral displays at the ceremony for the front centrepiece and the bar cart. We then dismantled and transported this to the reception for the welcome drinks.”

Column Garden, Centennial Parklands played host to the bride and groom’s vision of a garden ceremony. “We decided on an outdoor garden ceremony surrounded by plants, foliage and lush greenery” tells Jenny.

Jenny chose “Angels” by The XX to play as she walked down the aisle with her father.

“We could not have asked for more perfect weather and of course the florals were a highlight” reminisces Jenny. “As I’m walking down the aisle and taking in the ceremony, I thought it could not have been more perfect. The sun piercing through the eyes was a good cover-up for the crying.”

Jenny and Aaron chose Charlene Valenton to officiate their ceremony, Jenny telling “We wanted the ceremony to be short and sweet and very relaxed. We went with the traditional vows and our celebrant Charlene Valenton crafted the perfect ceremony for us to share our story. We wanted the formalities to be fairly short so we could spend time talking and celebrating with our friends and family who were there.”

Jenny and Aaron were delighted with their choice of a photographer. “We are so happy we chose Sonja. We wanted a photographer that could capture some fun, light-hearted and candid moments for our big day and she delivered that and more. She produced a collection of images that truly wowed us and worked her magic to make us look pretty damn good.”

A foodie filled reception was on the cards for Jenny and Aaron who invited guests to join them in celebration at beautiful restaurant Luke’s Kitchen. Jenny says “We chose a warehouse reception venue that had a beautiful mix of décor, deep green walls, hanging plants and an industrial feel. The staff and events team at Luke’s Kitchen are exceptional.”

It was an ode to how these two met that led them to dance their first dance to Justin Bieber’s “Baby” Jenny explaining “On the day of the wedding we still hadn’t decided on a first song! When we were seated at the reception and the band (Voli K) were playing some background music, we decided then and there to ask him to play his own version of any Bieber track. He ended up doing the most amazing version of ‘baby’ and it was perfect! As we were dancing, Aaron was still trying to figure out which song it was because it was such a unique and beautiful cover.”

A big congratulations on your marriage Jenny and Aaron! It was such an honour to share your stories. Thank you also to Sonja Cenic for sharing today’s beautiful images with us!
