Britt & Josh

There is a sense of beauty, of timeless style when it comes to a classic wedding. And for Britt and Josh, they chose the most stunning venue, Spicers Clovelly Estate, a garden home in the mountains, that allowed all their wedding dreams to come to life. “We wanted a classic, garden-style wedding” explains Britt. “We chose the venue because of the beautiful European style and the gorgeous Jacaranda tree we were to be married under. But we wanted the wedding to evolve into an awesome celebration, once the formalities had ended.”

And that they did, guests welcomed throughout each setting of the day, from the vows to the drinks, to finally an intimate reception, where the couple could treasure their guests,

And that wasn’t all that’s special – the newlyweds commissioned their favourite jeweller to create beautiful pieces for both them, and their wedding party to wear on the day and Morgan Roberts Weddings was invited to capture it all.

“We grew up on the Sunshine Coast, a few minutes away from each other” explains Britt on how these two first came to be. “But we didn’t meet until we were 19 when a group of friends planned a trip to Thailand to celebrate finishing high school. Josh decided to tag along and the rest is history! We were together when we came home, and have been together ever since.”

And in the very same mood as their wedding day – personal, intimate and full of special surprises, Josh popped the question in the couple’s home.  Britt sharing “Josh had been hiding the ring for a week or two (inside his golf bag – Britt would never look there!), but we were getting ready for a weekend with Britt’s family in Melbourne. The night before we left, he set up some beautiful candles and after we had eaten a beautiful dinner with gorgeous wine, he popped the question in our little apartment in Canberra. It was simple, and it was just us – absolutely perfect. Little did I know my whole family knew it was coming and had helped design the ring!”

The couple added their own personal touch to many parts of the day, starting with jewellery pieces designed and made by jeweller Camilla Gough. Britt explaining “We tried to incorporate special details throughout our whole wedding. One significant portion for us was the “forever details”. We spent a lot of time with our wedding jewellery designer – Camilla Gough to design pieces for our bridesmaids, and Josh’s cuff links and our wedding bands that tie into the day. The bridesmaid’s earrings were modelled off Britt’s dress, and each girl had their own gem to reflect different personalities and moments within the day. Josh’s cuff links tied in with the jacaranda tree we were to be married under, as were our wedding bands (amethysts included, as well as specific engravings and hidden details).

Planning the wedding jewellery was a really beautiful thing we did together. Camilla has been involved in our family for many years now and to watch the creative process evolve was really special.”

Opting for classic black tie, Josh donned a Hugo Boss tuxedo.

The bride chose an Alex Perry gown, the style of which surprised even her! She explains ” I went into the “dress choosing” process with a very strict idea in mind, I wanted full lace and to be covered from a high neck to long sleeves – I chose the opposite! I chose what I chose because it suited me, when I put it on (at the whim of my maid of honour), I was sold. My face told my mum and bridesmaids that it was the one and I knew I couldn’t go back. Sarah from Alex Perry was beautiful and the whole experience was just perfect. For my shoes, I chose Valentino rock stud heels because they are comfortable, and added something a little bit extra to the outfit.”

As her “something old” and “something borrowed” Britt wore her great grandmother’s engagement ring, a piece  her older sister also wore on her wedding day,

Britt and Josh chose the stunning venue of Spicers Clovelly Estate for their big day. “Spicers allowed private use for the entire day/night and has separate areas for each period of your special day (ceremony – garden party – reception – dancing)” explains Britt. “It’s a European inspired venue with the most gorgeous jacaranda tree, fantastic food and breathtaking 360-degree views. It also allowed for some of our guests to stay there the night which added a little bit of convenience for some of the family.”

Britt walked down the aisle with her father to Pachelbel’s Canon in D.

Stunning green and white floral details were brought to life by Mondo Floral Designs, the design of which Britt & Josh left to the pros! The bride explaining “We chose Mondo Floral Designs to design our flowers for the day. We were quite happy to go with whatever Terrianne thought was best because we had seen many of her weddings before. After showing Terrianne a few simple designs Britt had picked out, Terrianne knew exactly what we needed. We had beautiful big white roses along with some freesias and hyacinth. The wedding flowers were mostly green and white, simple and elegant.”

“We just wanted it to be simple, reflective of us and the love we share” explains Britt of the couple’s garden ceremony. “We wanted it to be happy, and a little bit fun.”

Britt and Josh loved every moment of working with photographer Morgan. “Morgan is now known as the “camera ninja” and our guests are still raving about him and our photos, months later. He was the first vendor we locked in after we secured a date, because he also photographed my sisters and a friend’s wedding, and we loved how he captures emotion. He’s down to earth and easy to work with. We aren’t the most ‘camera comfortable’ people and Morgan just made it easy, and natural. We knew we could put our trust in him to capture our day, and we are so glad we did.”

Even the first dance was to an old, classic favourite tune. “Our first dance was “At Last” by Etta James. We really struggled to choose a first dance song! We spent night after night sitting on the couch listening to different music, but it was a random Sunday morning while we were cooking our breakfast that At Last came on and we knew it was the right one. The first dance was so special to us, Spicers has a beautiful room where the dancing happens and to have all our loved ones around us while it was just us, dancing alone on the dance floor was a moment we both treasure.”

A big congratulations to you both Britt and Josh! it was so wonderful to share your story today Thank you also to Morgan Roberts Weddings for sharing today’s celebration with us!
