Happy Monday Dotties! We are well into the autumnal chill around here, so we’re rugged up. But we’re ready for the new week to begin!

Even though it’s so gut-wrenching at the moment, with postponements and even a cancellation of your wedding day, looking to the future and still planning for a wedding celebration that may look different from what you first envisaged, but will still be an acknowledgement of you as a couple is so important right now.  It’s time to explore our Polka Dot Directory which is filled with vendors who are eager to help you create your perfect day as we come out of this crisis. We have Entertainment, we have Photography, we have Flowers and Bridesmaids Gowns – we even have Catering and Bridal Gown Services.

Check out the Polka Dot Directory for wedding vendors who will love your wedding as much as you!

The wedding cake is the piece de resistance with carefully chosen flavoured layers and decoration, the crowning glory of a memorable celebration. From Ireland to Harrods in London and then to the Big Group in Melbourne, Jean of Bakes By Jean has years of experience in the culinary arts. She is able to create your cake from the most delicious of flavours including Lemon Delicious, Vanilla Ice Ice Baby, and Snow White – don’t they make your mouth water? And the decoration on the cake can be anything your heart desires – from bright colours or neutrals, dried flowers, sparkles, sprinkles, chocolate – just ask and Jean will work with you to make it happen. And as Jean says “A wedding cake is shared from the couple to both sides of the family as a kind of joining of the two families and to bring good luck to the guests.” And we can’t think of a better reason to have a beautiful cake to share.

We asked Jean of Bakes By Jean five questions in five minutes:

What is the most important piece of advice you can give to engaged couples?

Book everything ASAP so you won’t be as stressed in the lead up to your big day. And enjoy the day. You are the only one that will notice if things don’t go according to plan.

Tell us about a hidden talent you have?

I do an epic version of “Vanilla Ice, Ice Baby” in Karaoke. I love the song so much I named a cake after it!

As a vendor, what excites you about the wedding day?

I love seeing a Wedding Cake come to life in its surroundings with the table settings and flowers in the reception room.

What are you known for?

Being easy to work with. I’m here to make your day a little less stressful. You ask me to make your Wedding Cake and then you leave it in my capable hands.
I would also like to be know for cakes that not only look fantastic but also taste amazing.

If you could choose a song to play for the rest of your life what would it be?

There’s two to choose from…Billy Joel’s “The Piano Man”. It was the 2nd song at our Wedding and I danced to it with my Dad as it’s our song. And Chris de Burgh’s “In A Country Churchyard”. I walked down the aisle with my parents to this song. They both love it and it was a surprise for them and a very special moment.

Now excuse me while I go belt out my version of Vanilla Ice…
