Brodie & Patrick

Bright lights, big city (hello The City Issue!), stunning wedding! That’s the name of the game when it comes to today’s celebration of Brodie & Patrick. Captured beautifully by Gabriel Veit.

Embracing all the urban delight of beautiful Brisbane city, Brodie and Patrick planned a day, that in the bride’s words was “classic and minimalist”. The venue, the stunning Brisbane Powerhouse setting the scene in all of its industrial, urban glory. A ceremony that overlooked the beautiful Brisbane river kicking off a day that was utterly festive and at the same time, utterly elegant.

These two? Their adventure has been underway for some time, says Brodie. “We met through a mutual friend at a house party back in 2010, but didn’t officially get together until 2012 (by then I had moved to Melbourne and Pat took a gamble and followed me there!)”

It was on a trip to Tasmania, that Patrick popped the big question. “Pat proposed on a secluded beach in Freycinet National Park in Tasmania! We had been to a few wineries that day and Pat had to drag me away from the last one so we could make it to the beach in time for sunset…I was slightly suspicious as he had never shown any interest in watching sunsets haha!”

The bride chose a white sequinned gown from designer Karen Willis Holmes. She tells “This was the second boutique I visited, and I shouldn’t have wasted time going anywhere else after that! Nothing else compared! The only hiccup was…I somehow ‘changed shape’ over the next 10 or so months after purchasing the dress, and ended up having to swap it for the size up, which luckily they had in stock thank god. Seriously, who puts on weight before their wedding?”

Brodie and Patrick chose Brisbane Powerhouse. “We love the powerhouse – can’t beat that view over the river. And we loved the reception area at Factory 51, and the fact they were a restaurant so we were pretty confident the food would be amazing, which it was!”

The blooms for the day were styled by Bloom & Bramble, Brodie explaining “My very good friend Sophie conveniently became a florist and she did my flowers for the day which I loved.”

Brodie walked down the aisle on the arm of her father to Sarah Archer performing Elvis Presley’s “Can’t help Falling In Love” live.

Brodie and Patrick chose Erin Woodhall to officiate their ceremony, sharing “We wanted the ceremony to be light-hearted, short & sweet, so we didn’t have any readings, just got straight into the vows!”

Brodie and Patrick were thrilled with their choice of photographer, noting “Gabe was great, wouldn’t exactly call us pro models but he somehow captured all our best angles and got some amazing sunset shots in an abandoned field which was fun!”

Once the sun had set, it was time for a dinner reception. Brodie added her personal touches to the day, creating the place cards for each guest, herself, made all the signage and set everything up with a group of her favourite girlfriends. That trio of beautiful cakes? Made by a friend of Sarah’s from work.

The speeches were a highlight of the night for Brodie. “Pat’s speech was pretty hard to beat, he is usually not the emotionally expressive type but he went all out. Also, I loved, sitting at the wedding table with my new husband watching my seating chart come to life!” Advice from Brodie to you? “Start writing your speech early! I left mine till the last minute and was pretty stressed out. I ended up trying to make my speech funny cause I was worried about people getting bored, and I definitely regret this cause everyone else said such lovely things about me in their speeches!
On the same note – try your hardest not to do things just to please others, you only get to do this once (hopefully) so do what you want!!!”

The couple took to the dance floor to live tunes again by Sarah Archer. “We danced to Beyonce’s “XO”, It was on Sarah’s list of suggestions and I was getting sick of coming up with ideas by then so just went with that! Can’t go wrong with Queen B.”

Patrick & Brodie invited This Love Wedding Films along to capture their wedding film, and the result? Spectacular!

A big congratulations to you Patrick & Brodie! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Gabriel Veit for sharing today’s photographs.
