We’ve been talking stunning urban weddings all month long on The City issue, and we had one thing in mind for today’s post, beautiful styling ideas for your city wedding.

Urban spaces can often be tricky to style. We adore them and embrace them for their modern industrial style, but cement floors, exposed walls and enormously high ceilings can seem like an untouchable blank canvas

So today, we’ve rounded up a few ideas, to bring a little warmth, your own style, to the space you’ve fallen in love with. From geometric shapes that can sit beautifully behind you while you say your “I Do’s” to stunning lighting ideas. Which idea is your favourite?

Bold geometric shapes

Geometric shapes are a touch that is easy to add to any wedding space. From tall angular shapes for ceremony backdrops, to modern table centrepieces and decor around the space. Triangular and circular backdrops, adorned with wire mesh or left bare make their own grand statement. Soften the pieces with flowers or fabrics to help them weave their way into your wedding decor.

Fun neon signage

Neon signage is so easily one of the most personal trends to light up our lives in the past year or so. The bright bold colours, and modern design adding a touch of fun to any wedding. Not only can you completely customise your neon sign to have your own special phrase or your own initials, but you can hang in your own home.

Lush floral installations

A city space can sometimes feel a little cold, and one of the easiest ways to bring back the warmth and the life, is with grand floral arrangements, Wedding arrangements can easily lean towards modern, especially if sculptural blooms and plenty of greenery are used. Consider an installation as your ceremony backdrop, or hanging in the reception space for an amazing statement.

Bold colour combinations

You never need to be stuck on white and black for a modern city wedding. Pair bright bolds, or jewel tones with pastels and neutrals for something completely unexpected and completely modern. Here taupe, black and white is paired alongside deep magenta and raisin, and peach. Think pale greens with grey and deep inky blue, black with rose gold and vivid orange, pale pink with deep burgundy and peach.

Exposed & interesting lighting

Lighting can make or break a space, and using interesting lighting effects like bare Edison style bulbs, can create a beautiful industrial, city vibe for your wedding. You might also consider spotlights or uplighting in different spaces to make a feature of that warm, inviting glow.

Modern ways of including candlelight

Candlelight is hands down, my favourite way of styling a wedding. And when it comes to styling your wedding in a modern vibe, consider different ways of including it. Simple architectural style candle holders holding taper candles, artisan candelabras, modern votive holders. the vessels and the choice of the candle itself are both equally important here, so look beyond the classic clear glass, for something truly special.

Gauzy, transparent curtains

It pays when it comes to styling your wedding in a modern, urban look, to think of how you’re going to separate spaces, and the unusual ways you can do it. This space above, used a transparent black curtain, as a ceremony backdrop. The modern colour, paired with lush, on-trend floral details and plenty of candlelight made this industrial space a little dreamy. Consider adding your own beautiful, romantic fabrics to a space, for warmth and texture and unexpected style.

Modern furniture pieces

As your cast your eye over your space, considering switching out your furniture, to create your unique urban look. Metal Tolix chairs, as seen here, pair beautifully for a modern, yet warm look with a bare topped wooden table. You could also consider transparent ghost chairs, hairpin leg tables, velvet furniture. Think about the spaces your guests will spend most of their time, and switch the furniture to suit.

Layered place settings in deep tones

One of the easiest ways of bringing modern styling to your wedding is through your place settings. Ditch the classic white crockery and look for pieces with a difference, A grey plate layered on deep ruby red, a black plate layered with orange and teal. Work that aforementioned unique colour palette and mix and match bold styles for a truly beautiful look.
