What is your favourite wedding theme?

Rustic Chic

What inspires you?

Amazing people seeking mastery around life balance whilst contributing/serving at the highest level they can in all aspects of their life.

What is special about weddings to you?

Where couples already have kids, it’s a promise to your family that you are marrying and committing to the bigger family whole that you have created together, not just a promise between the two people at the altar.

What is your favourite image of all time?

My black horse Cougar. I interact with him twice a day at my home property – horses to me optimise grace, beauty, power and wild nature all in one package. Having an inter species relationship with a magnificent large creature like that is spiritual experience that moves me on a daily basis.

What book are you reading at the moment?

‘Back from the Brink’ by Peter Andrews. It is about land management practices and how Australia’s landscape can be saved. We have ten acres here and I am trained in the ways of Permaculture and am in the middle of completing a ten acre complete Permaculture property design plan for our place.

What is your Number 1 tip for brides and grooms?

Consider your planning part of the process as bringing everyone together. It’s not all about “the big day”. The planning process should be loving and warm and part of the bonding process for you and “your circle” of people.

Also expect things to go wrong  in the final stages and even on the day. Breath, laugh it off and go with the flow, it’s all good! On our wedding day here at the farm as I drove off with my bridesmaid four hours before the ceremony to get our hair done, we watched three of our four wedding marquees blow away and all our guests run down the paddock to try and salvage the scene that was a complete train wreck! My mum also shattered her femur (thigh bone) four days before our wedding in our front garden and had major surgery two days before and almost didn’t even get to come to the wedding day. Both were totally unexpected events that had the potential to ruin the whole experience if I didn’t keep calm and carry on!

What is the one tool of your that you can’t live without?

My I-phone

What is your resolution for this year?

Be very intentional and mindful about my bed time being 10.10pm or earlier. I have done a lot of study this last year on sleep and how integral it is for peak performance and health, two things vital to my life as a mum of three young boys, an olive farmer and running a full time online textile/produce business as well as contributing on a volunteer level with sport in my community.

What are you excited about right now?

Flying out to a mini getaway to rural Victoria with my nine year old (one of my three boys) and my closest girlfriend. We are booked to go on a tour of renowned Australian landscape designer Paul Bangay’s rural garden at Stonefields. I have admired his work for 15 years and aspire to create a garden like his on our own property.

What is a special personal talent you possess?

I am an advanced student in Natural Horsemanship and have followed the Parelli system for 20 years.

Where is your favourite place to escape to for downtime and why?

My garden. It’s a work of art in progress; I love connecting with nature and the earth, it’s so very stabilising and grounding.

Ms Chinoiserie Says: Making your beautiful gifts in such a lovely location surrounded by your inspirational garden sounds just like heaven!

About Homegrown & Handmade: Hi, I’m Kallista! I opted out of a hectic marketing career in Sydney in search of a simple life and with my husband and our three boys – and found our slice of heaven in the shape of a ten acre olive farm in country Western Australia. Here we live/work in our little weatherboard cottage surrounded by our horses, dogs, majestic trees and ample quiet space. I make beautiful, useful and wholesome items for heartfelt gifting.
