Emily & Mitch

Relaxed and rustic go oh-so well together, just like Emily and Mitch who met on social media when they were teenagers! Filled with personal touches and gorgeous DIY from loved ones, the couple aimed for a chilled out, fun day and that’s exactly what they pulled off. Their dream day was brought to life by a talented team of vendors, including DJ:Plus! Entertainment who made sure the bride, groom and all their guests had the time of their lives. Capturing it in all its loveliness was Danni Evans Photography and PixFlix Productions. Below, Emily details how the wedding came together, her favourite memories and her advice for soon to be newlyweds.

Our wedding day was November 17, 2018. We married in Bathurst NSW at St Aubyn’s on Clairvaux. It was rustic, chilled and relaxed. I wanted easy. I had the time of my life! People still to this day tell me it was was one of the funnest weddings they have ever been to.

I am quite a small human to say the least. So every dress shop I went to everything swam on me!
What to do? Well, my mother-in-law has a seamstress friend. We decided to get my dress made, which couldn’t have been more perfect! Deb from Sew in Love made my dress from scratch. It was made to my body shape and everything I desired. And the price tag was waaaaayyyyy less! I was so happy.

The pearl necklace I wore was from my grandad. He handmade it for me before he passed away.

For my flowers, I got inspiration from good old Pinterest. I wanted white and green with a natural vibe. My florist guided me, and for a pop of colour in the bridesmaids we added a spot of difference which was the pink. It worked well! We had the rustic twine to tie it all in. The boys’ button holes were pink also, my dad’s and husband’s were white to tie in with mine.

For Mitch’s attire, I gave him a run down of what colours to choose to go with the bridesmaids. It was pretty simple. He wore suspenders to stand out from the groomsmen. We got them all from yd.

Originally, we had arranged a different venue, which was not organised at all. They had double booked the rooms, and just made me second guess my choice in venue. Mitch got home from work and I was a stressed crying mess. I said that we needed to find another venue as I couldn’t do this anymore. He took it on so well and just took over. He knew this venue as he has a vintage car that he previously supplied to a wedding at St Aubyn’s. He arranged a meeting and boy oh boy I fell in love! It was perfect in more ways than I could have possibly imagined. It had the rustic barn I was dreaming of. A luscious green lawn and stunning garden. Leanne, the owner, took so much pride in her garden. She was incredible and super organised. She had everything! Photo props, rustic wine barrels, you name it. I booked the venue on the way home in the car. To say I was excited was an understatement!

My very talented father-in-law made us an arbour.

He also made a ‘Mitch & Em’ sign for the guests to see as they arrived at the venue.

We choose ‘I Get to Love You’ by Ruelle to walk down the aisle to. The girls walked down to an instrumental version of the song, which changed to the recorded version for me. All thanks to Serge from DJ:Plus! Entertainment who suggested the idea. I had a beautiful message I voice recorded for my mum played over the speaker to all my quests. She sadly passed away and I felt I needed to add her in somehow. It was so incredible. All of my guests had tears and it will be something I remember for the rest of my life.

Our ceremony was everything I could have hoped for. I wanted it to be full of love and family! Which it was. It captured Mitch and I perfectly. We wrote our own vows, which made it so much more special.

Our photographer was Danni Evans. WHAT A DREAM she is. She previously did our engagement shoot. On the wedding day she was on fire! We all felt so comfortable with her. She made us laugh. She’s beyond talented and the moments she captured are incredible. I have known Danni for a while now, and she’s just a lovely, humble, wonderful human. Natural talent this one!

I personally didn’t DIY anything, but I had ideas which we made come to life. The only thing I did DIY was I put together a photo slideshow for everyone to enjoy. It captured pictures of my husband and I growing up, to growing together. I still bawl my eyes out watching it.

My favourite part of wedding planning was communicating with all these fantastic humans, our vendors. Mixing our ideas and dreams and creating our special day on paper. I absolutely loved it. Filling in the gaps and adding my own touch. Bringing Pinterest idea to life. Amazing!

The games we played at our reception were absolutely hilarious, thanks to Serge from DJ:Plus Entertainment. Without Serge, our wedding would not have been so filled with everything. His ideas were fantastic and he just made it stressless and it all ran super smooth because of his wonderful organisation skills.

He communicated with me so well, and went above and beyond. He made our wedding day. His passion for his work made our wedding day. I could not imagine it without him. I am so thankful I came across him. To this day we still talk, it really felt like he was family. And might I add everyone at our wedding told me how amazing he was!

For our first dance, we chose ‘I’m Gonna Be 500 Miles’ by Sleeping At Last. It was a slower remake of the original. We then, after a few minutes of slow dancing, busted out into ‘Classic’ by MKTO. All thanks to Serge once again, who mixed the songs together for an easy transition.

‘Classic’ for Mitch and I was our song that reminded everyone of us. Every function, party, we were always us busting a move together. To this day I love playing it and having him around. Takes me back to being young 17 year olds when we got together.

My advice for soon to be newlyweds? Have fun! I can’t emphasis this enough.

It’s such a busy, busy time of your life. The organising, arranging, contacting people. Find people who you really get along with. You will feel they are meant to be there for your wedding day! Contact a few and follow your heart. Look around, do your research! Meet them. And go out for breakfast or lunch whilst you’re at it! Enjoy your husband or wife to be in this crazy time. Rely on each other and go with your gut!

Also, don’t sweet the small stuff. On the day if something doesn’t go exactly to plan, let it be! It will work itself out.

But like I said, have fun! Embrace the craziness. Enjoy getting ready, play some tunes and drink some wine! Enjoy your bridesmaids and groomsmen. EAT!!!!!!!

It’s by far one of the best days of your life. Lap up every moment, take it in. Run away with your new husband/wife for five minutes and spend that time together. We did it, it was wonderful. Just be in the moment.
