Imposing, majestic and just plain tall, the Marina Bay Sands complex is everything you could ask for in a highrise hotel. Built in 2010 and designed by Safdie Architects it dominates the skyline of this beautiful city. For me and my family, it was the first stop on a trip to Greece, designed to break up the torturous 18 hour or so trip. We didn’t know what to expect as we actually hadn’t heard anything about it (living under a rock obviously) so our minds were open. What we found was a noisy, massive, buzzing and absolutely breathtaking hotel…. 3 towers and over 2500 rooms of breathtaking hotel.

Our complimentary shuttle bus took us from Changi International Airport to the hotel, and arriving at 10:30pm to check in we were still greeted by crowds of people out and about. There are bars, shops, restaurants and two separate check in and concierge counters all in the foyer of the hotel. Underneath the complex, and directly accessible by at least three sets of escalators is a massive shopping complex complete with ice skating rink, theatre and a huge casino. Of course, after our flight, our main priority was getting to our room for some much needed shower and shut eye. What we found when we entered literally knocked our tired little socks off!

Upon entry, the block out blinds automatically open to reveal an amazing city skyline. Take a few steps in and you’re greeted with an entry hall complete with a coffee machine and then a couple more steps reveal the walk in closet and huge bathroom.

Tall ceilings, sliding wooden doors and perfectly finished interiors are heaven to a weary traveller. Our room also had an office complete with fax, scanner, printer and full internet connectivity. Very handy!

The kids had a sofa bed that they thought was just the best and we had an amazing king size pillow of fluff to sleep on! Oh why don’t they make beds like this to buy!

I will be writing again about this hotel on my way back to Australia! We get to stay here for 5 whole nights and explore Singapore! If anyone has any recommendations about where to go and what to do while we’re there I’d love to hear them!!

Polka Dot Bride Shop

It was a very, very cold May weekend when Mr Polka whisked me off to The Langham Hotel in Melbourne for a mini celebration. You see, we like to celebrate and although we’d dreamt of a trip to Europe this year, we settled for a beautiful hotel room and lovely dinner instead. We loved it just as much!

An avid lover of reviews, and real honeymoons I thought I’d share what I loved about The Langham because not only is it perfect for Melbourne honeymoons but if you’re a Melbourne couple, it’s a darn fine place to spend your wedding night!

Mr Polka surprised me with a Terrace Room – one of the more luxurious Langham rooms (they have only four). The Terrace Rooms each have their  own private terrace (which is a huge 49 m2 ) on top of the already massive suite. The rooms only open in 2011 so they’re still looking fresh and new.

Terrace Rooms give access to the Club lounge which means complimentary coffee and tea with sweet treats, complimentary drinks and pastries all day (along with cheeses, snacks and dips after nightfall) and complimentary breakfast (which we only ate a little of, instead opting to visit one of Melbourne’s laneways!). We waited in the club lounge while our room was ready and dined on macarons and good coffee at a table set with Langham pink roses. To start our evening celebration, we chose a gin & tonic overlooking the city lights before heading out to our dinner reservation.

It’s all in the little details when you stay a hotel and it’s what I love about The Langham. My favourites?

– The LCD TV screen welcomed us with our names as we entered the room (I told you it was the little things!)

– Iphone docking! Wonderful to play some getting ready music (although the room also comes with a Teleadapt media hub)

– In keeping with the fairytale theme of the hotel, we did find the little frog Pink Lady chocolates and..they were gone before dinner. There was also a lovely pink copy of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland for a little bedtime reading.

– The bathroom (marble, with a bath, separate shower and double sinks) is stocked full of amenities. Everything from sunscreen, after sun gel to Langham pink toothbrushes, packed in luxurious leather clad boxes.

– Turn down service! Not only does the hotel provide a handwritten note of the next day’s temperature and weather but I do like the slippers left next to the bed.

– The deck? One of the most exquisite views of Melbourne. I could have slept on the balcony actually. If it wasn’t Melbourne.  And freezing.

Of course, The Langham has the Langham king sized heavenly beds which make you wake up and want to buy them (and you can, just check out the price list in your bedroom drawer).

The view is stunning by day, but as the sun set that’s when it truly took my breath away.

In case you’re worried about rain.. this is the view we woke up to.. not half bad!

I’ve got a special secret… but I’m happy to share it with you. It’s about a sensational and sexy little getaway that is perfect for a honeymoon or pre-wedding escape. Located in Bellingen, New South Wales, 30 minutes from Coffs Harbour airport, Aniseed Luxury Villa are a romantic hideaway created just for couples.

Two, one bedroom contemporary villas sit pretty on 33 acres of luscious land. But you’d never know there were two villas, as they are positioned a good 100 metres away from each other and separated by a large tropical garden, so it’s easy to feel like you’re the only couple around for miles.

Step inside your luxury villa and you’ll be smitten with the contemporary features – elevated ceilings, large open windows and an outdoor spa. The décor is the perfect mix of chic and cozy, with a lounge-on-me-all day sofa and a library of books, cd’s and dvd’s to accompany it.

Open the fridge and you’ll discover that the food fairy has paid a visit and stocked it with everything from fresh farm eggs to cheese, organic muesli, homemade preserves and a delicious loaf of fresh baked bread from the local baker.

You can laze the day away on your timber deck, take the complimentary push bikes for a ride along Never Never River, swim in the deep, crystal-clear swimming holes or venture into Bellingen for a look at the wonderful shops. Your days will be filled with serenity and relaxation.

Come nightfall, if you don’t feel like driving into town to sample the multi-award winning cuisine at No. 2 Oak Street (it has two chef’s hats and is seriously good), you have a few other options. Enjoy your complimentary bottle of bubbly and order a gorgeous BBQ hamper of red and white meats (or vegetarian), salads and organic gelato, or book a personal chef to spoil you with a romantic candlelit dinner served to you on your deck under the stars.

The only other must-do on this romantic getaway is to indulge in a relaxing spa treatment. You can arrange for a therapist to come to your villa and pamper you with a one hour massage, a facial treatment or a full body scrub… all in the privacy of your own villa.

The relaxation, serenity and blissfulness at Aniseed are unsurpassed. If you are looking for a super-sexy honeymoon or weekend getaway, this is it!!
