Tony and I could not be any different, yet we got along when we first met in one of the student organizations in our university. Tony proposed on his birthday in 2009 at Eureka Tower. He did not count on one thing; my fear of heights. After the proposal, I did forget about the heights and said, “Tentatively…yes”.  I was teasing him, of course it was a “yes”!

St. Patrick's Cathedral

We had a weekend wedding instead of a day. This was mostly decided for us when the church and the venue that we wanted were not available on the same day.  The church was available on the Saturday while the venue, on the next day. So we thought, why not?

As previously mentioned, Tony and I are opposites, so we had a mishmash of things that are important to us to make the wedding ‘very Jennifer and Tony’. Having the two days meant that we could have different themes or feel for each day. Of course, there were also dilemmas that came with having a two day wedding such as – do we wear the same dresses? In the end, I settled for a wedding gown from Karen Willis Holmes. My hair was done by Melissa Angelina (0401 011 453) and makeup was done by Hermia Lee

I also sourced different types of waist accessories such as these lovely custom-made flowers from Percy Handmade.

I also had a lovely custom-made luncheon dress from W. is for Wilson which ended up being the colour inspiration for the whole wedding.

Details were important to us. We got lovely shoe clips from Chloe & Maddie to accessorize the bridesmaids’ shoes. We also opted for a custom-made ring bearer dish from Paloma’s Nest.

One of the highlights of the wedding was when the groom had to pick the bride up from her parents’ home as per our Indonesian tradition. Tony and his groomsmen had to carry out several challenging “tasks” before he could meet the bride.

We had a very formal Catholic ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I walked down the aisle to the hymn “God Who Created Hearts to Love” sung by the fantastic cantor, Paul Hughes. I carried a mix of yellow Ranunculi and dusty pink roses from Armadale Flowers. I giggled at the word “husband” during the vows! Our transport was provided by Abbey Road Classic cars.

Since the formal aspect of the wedding was done on Saturday, Sunday was a day of fun. The reception was held at The International of Brighton. We had a very DIY approach to our centrepieces. We used doilies to add a touch of colour and tiny pots from Ikea filled with Alyssum (from  Garden of Eden Nursery) (which also doubled as the bonbonnieres), soy candles in glass candle holders, and table signage which I designed and made myself. We also added personal touches around the room. We had a 4-tiered cake from Ab Fab Cakes topped off with a bride and groom sitting on top of a red scooter made by Maria Stevens, which was specifically requested by Tony (who has a red scooter). Not only did the scooter make it into the cake, it also made it to our guestbook wedding photos.

Just Jen & Tony

We danced to “Menikahlah Denganku” which means ‘marry me’ in Indonesian for our first bridal waltz. This song is important to us as Tony proposed using this song.  The highlight of the reception was when Tony serenaded me and the guests with his version of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and it brought me to tears.

A photo-booth corner provided amusement for the guests during the reception. We did this by laying vintage-look fabric backdrop against the wall and providing mustaches, funny glasses, vintage frames and a top hat as props.

Alas, the weekend did zip by but it was certainly a weekend to remember. Many guests commented that the whole wedding was ‘very Jen and Tony’!

We would not have our wonderful wedding weekend without all our vendors. They helped to refine our ideas and provided us with invaluable advice/service that made our day even more special.

Ms Polka Dot says: A cute and colourful wedding for you today. What a great idea to hold it over two days  – a super way to stretch out the celebrations! Congratulations on your marriage Jen and Tony!

Jen says: I was a mish-mash bride, who loves DIY, vintage, cute-sy, eco-friendly or anything that tickles my fancy. Despite the wedding being done, I still love everything wedding and troll around on wedding sites looking at what other people are doing, still excited with ideas!
