Matthew and Darcie

I came to Sydney in 2008 to finish the final semester of Masters Degree. Although I loved Sydney and was open to staying a bit longer than the semester, I can honestly say I never expected to still be here almost four years later! That’s where Matthew comes in.  Matt and I met in July 2008, started dating in August 2008 and moved into an apartment in Bondi together six months later. This has been our home for the better part of three years.

Growing up in Toronto Canada, the beach was something you dreamed about during the winter but didn’t get to enjoy often unless you went down to the Caribbean! Although Matt is Australian, he grew up in rural NSW so the beach is still a bit of a novelty for him too!  The coastal cliff path from Bondi to Bronte Beach has been a very special walk for us throughout our relationship. We are having our wedding in Canada but wanted to capture “iconic” Bondi and the incredible landscape that has been the background of so many memories for us in our engagement photos. We are both laid back and as such, we asked Robert (our amazing photographer from Robert Meredith Photography) to basically capture a casual, romantic walk that we often take together.

Bronte is our favourite beach and that’s where we wanted to end up at twilight for some beautiful winter portraits. Our vision was to use these photos to create a postcard-style save the date that would resonate with our Aussie guests and “wow” our North American ones.

We met our photographer, Robert Meredith, in a very random way (he left one business card in the lobby of our building while visiting friends!) but we truly feel it was meant to be as we were researching photographers when we literally stumbled upon it. From the beginning he made us feel like we were his #1 client which (as I am sure any bride to be can agree with) really makes a world of difference.

He put so much effort, patience and thought into our engagement shoot. We couldn’t be happier with the result!

Ms Gingham says: The thing that is so beautiful about the rugged Australian landscape is that it absolutely cannot be mistaken for anywhere else in the world. This images prove just that and will make the most beautiful save the dates for Matthew and Darcie.

Darcie says: “I am a Canadian who travelled Down Under to complete my Master’s Degree. While in Australia, I found my dream partner and job and decided to stay! I am a PR manager in Sydney and love the gym, fresh food and Australian shiraz. I am getting married in August 2012 in Canada in an intimate ceremony.”
