This is a stunning art deco wedding inspired shoot at Brisbane’s Tivoli Theatre. Being art deco, the concept is distinctly vintage but with a glamorous edge. Elements such as the art deco style layered fan shapes were taken from the stationery to the cake keeping the style and look of the shoot cohesive and tying everything together.

Photographer Sarzy O Photography conceived the shoot based on her love of the Art Deco period.  “I have an obsession with many styles of art and not the least Art Deco! It is so strong and bold — an almost masculine style although so elegant. It is pure glamour and was so forward and modern in it’s day — so different from the flowing and very feminine culture before it. So it occurred to me with vintage styling being so popular in weddings (although we see mostly beautiful feminine styles) why not show how stunning a dark and glamorous Art Deco wedding could be!!    I had worked with some amazingly talented people within the industry and thought we could combine my love of Deco with an amazing styled shoot.

So I got to putting a team together.   Then the Wil Valor suite tied the entire look together! Where could be more fitting a setting than the beautiful Tivoli Theatre, Brisbane? It was built in 1917 — perfectly Art Deco and restored in style providing the perfect venue to base our styling.”

“Amanda (Adorn Event Hire) and Bec (Style My Celebration) collaborated on the styling of the dessert and dining tables to ensure they were consistent and authentic. They decided on the use of navy blue and burgundy, with touches of ivory, peach and bronze giving the dining and dessert tables a bold and unique look. The design incorporated crushed taffeta, fringed edging, geometric table decor, candlelight and feathers all reminiscent of the Art Deco style.”

Katy’s (My Darling Heart) favours added the perfect touch of class and Michelle’s (Stand Tall Designs) stationery continued the theme with bold blue and the geometric fan shape, that was was very popular in art deco and also became a consistent symbol throughout our styling.”

“Choosing to keep the cake all one colour, Sherie (The Flour Girl) decided on a soft peach to tie in beautifully with the chosen colour palette. Drawing on the drama from the structural elements of the strong Art Deco style of the cake we relied on shadows created from this dramatic design to capture the feeling of a striking building from the Art Deco era. Sherie wanted to add subtle gold and bronze tones to the cake pops and cupcakes whilst keeping that structural element present.”

“Kelly (Bella Bloom Floral Designs) researched and Calla Lillies were a popular flower choice during the Art Deco period, hence their representation throughout the floral designs in this shoot. The deep burgundy Calla’s were the perfect way to complement the colours combined in the table styling. Sculptured pheasant feathers provided shape, as well as texture to the arrangements. In addition, the large bronze succulents enhanced the masculine look we were aiming to achieve.”
