If you’re looking for a quintessentially English getaway, then Bath is the perfect honeymoon spot. Nestled in the south of England, just two hours drive from London, Bath is a wonderfully charming mix of ancient history, beautiful rolling countryside, and a bustling city.

The city is most famous for its spa heritage, which dates back to Roman times – and possibly even further than that! The original Roman baths are still open today – not for their original use sadly, but there are fascinating tours of the site if you’re a history buff.

The natural thermal springs of the city have been used for centuries, and are renowned for their alleged healing properties – with that in mind, pay a visit to the Thermae Bath Spa to relax and unwind. There are two spa buildings to choose between, with different spas and experiences in each – I recommend visiting the rooftop spa in the New Royal Bath, with spectacular views across the city and surrounding countryside. Visit at sunset for a gorgeous view, and a calming combination of perfectly warm water, and cool, clear evening air. Spa treatments are also available, as well as nibbles and drinks. This is definitely a must do activity!

Bath is also known for its beauty and culture. With its honey coloured Georgian buildings, largely constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries, there is a feeling of timeless elegance as you walk down the cobbled streets. There are several renowned theaters and museums in the city, and of course the lovely and ancient Bath Abbey. Several films have been shot in Bath – you may recognise the weirs from Les Miserables! Why not take a trip to the Theater Royal, one of the oldest theaters in England? Or take in a cabaret at Komedia, then stumble across one of the many subterranean bars and nightclubs that are hidden around Bath.

Food and drink is also a big part of Bath culture – the Sally Lunn bun, the Bath bun, and local Bath Ale are all a matter of local pride, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding these for a proper Bath experience!

With such a popular spot – Bath was designated a World Heritage site in 1987 – comes variety and luxury in accommodation. Stay in a city hotel, or venture a few miles out into the countryside. There are luxurious townhouses, quaint village pubs, self catering cottages, farm stays, or stunning hotels available for you to choose from. Bath Priory is a luxury country house hotel, with a Michelin starred restaurant; the Gainsborough is the only hotel in the UK to have a natural thermal spa on site; Jane Austen’s Home is – you guessed it! – the apartments where Jane and her family resided for several years. The choices are as endless and varied as the city itself.

If I still haven’t convinced you, then let me leave you with this final thought. Johnny Depp has a house in Bath.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m already looking for flights!
