Amy and Rhett

Rhett and I met almost nine years ago. At the time, the Carine Tavern in Perth was the place to be and it was on the dance floor one Friday night in August that we first hit it off!

Seven years later, I was in Melbourne for work and decided to go for an early morning walk (very unlike me!) Standing in the foyer of the hotel was Rhett, he had flown over to surprise me and propose! In true Rhett style he got down on one knee and proposed with a ‘Mr Men’ key-ring so we went shopping for an engagement ring together that afternoon!

When we started planning our wedding we loved the idea of a weekend getaway. We invited 45 of our closest friends and family down to Yallingup in the Margaret River region to celebrate over three days. Guests travelled from Canada, New Zealand and all over Western Australia to be a part of our special day which was an amazing effort!

The boys wore navy suits from Brittons Formal Wear, ties from The Tie Bar and Happy Socks.

I have three younger sisters who I chose to be my bridesmaids – pictured here with our mum (from left Holly, Jenny, Amy, Kate, Elizabeth.)

The girls and I got ready with the help of Elle Lincoln, who did our hair,  and Jasmine Bridal who did the most amazing makeup.

My sister, Kate, made my wedding dress. Of all the things that you worry about when you are planning a wedding, I never once worried about my dress because I knew it would be perfect! She sourced fabric and lace from Melbourne and I bought the belt from Etsy.

The navy bridesmaid dresses were from Thurley.

My flowers were created by our family friend Annie Farrell at Woodside Florist; we caught up once for dinner a few months before the wedding and we discussed that I wanted them to be quite modern with a pop of colour. When they arrived on the day they were so amazing – exactly what I had imagined!

The ceremony at Gunyulgup Galleries was at 4pm – the day had turned out quite windy so everyone was a bit concerned that the wedding arbor may take off during our vows! Luckily it didn’t, but the wind did create a few priceless photos of Dad and me walking the way down the aisle.

Our good friend Kate read ‘I Like You’ by Sandol Stoddard Warburg; it is a children’s book and perfectly sums up our relationship.

Our beautiful photographs were taken by Jodie and Karolina at Merge Photography.

The Studio Bistro was the perfect size venue for our small wedding reception. The food was amazing (as expected!) and the staff were very accommodating.

Our DJ was Mandy Bubb who went above and beyond to make sure all our guests danced non-stop until midnight! Rhett and I went to dance lessons for six weeks before the wedding so our bridal waltz to ‘With You’ by Chris Brown was very entertaining. Thanks to Gianni at The Dance Workshop for all your patience!

Ms Chinoiserie Says: Congratulations Amy and Rhett; I love the story about the surprise ‘Mr Men engagement ring’!

About Amy: As a bride I knew I wanted my wedding to be intimate, modern and relaxed. I put a lot of pressure on myself to create this perfect day, and as a I coordinate events for a living it was always going to be an impossible task! Leading into the day I was quite stressed, and then on the day I was completely calm. The key (apart from the champagne!) was selecting amazing vendors that you can trust, and surrounding yourself with people that truly know you! Rhett and I planned every part of our wedding together which was really important to me. Every decision we made reflected who we were as a couple.
