What you need to make 6 pies:

– 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed

– 1 1/2 tablespoons strawberry jam (or whatever flavour floats your boat!)

– 1 egg, lightly beaten

– 7cm heart-shaped cookie cutter

– 6 wooden popsicle sticks

– pastry brush

– baking tray lined with baking paper

Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan-forced). Use the cutter to cut 12 hearts from the pastry.  Place 6 of the hearts on the prepared tray.

Top each heart with a teaspoon of jam, leaving a pastry border. Press a popsicle stick into each heart. Brush the pastry borders with egg.  Top with remaining pastry hearts and press the edges to seal.

Brush pies with egg. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake for about 15 minutes, until puffed and golden. Allow to cool on the tray.

The recipe makes 6 pies but you can double or triple the recipe as required but you shouldn’t need to add any extra eggs as one egg will cover a lot of pies.
