Mini pom poms are so fun in so many ways, and the trick to making them easily? A fork! Such a simple project that will make a huge impact! I absolutely love wrapping gifts and adding little colourful touches to my home, and this is a very easy way to do it.

What you will need:

  • Wool in your chosen colour
  • Scissors
  • A fork! The larger the fork, the larger the pom pom.

Step 1. Holding the fork in one hand, begin wrapping the wool around the fork, catching the loose end as you go. I tend to count how many times I’ve wrapped the wool around the fork, to ensure the pom poms end up a similar size.

Step 2. Once you’ve wrapped the wool around your fork enough times (for thin wool I’d say approximately 40 times, for thick wool approximately 25 times – for this wool I wrapped 35 times), cut the wool and keep a firm grip on the end to stop it unravelling. Cut a length of wool to use to tie and hang the pom pom.

Step 3. Use the length of wool to tie your pom pom together. Poke one end through the middle of the fork tines and tie a knot, keeping in mind the length of the tying wool will be used to hang your pom pom (so keep one end long-ish).

Step 4. Pull the pom pom off the fork, and begin to cut around the outside rim (as shown in image), making sure you catch every loop. They’ll look a little wonky, but don’t fret!

Step 5. Trim the pom poms into a lovely little circle shape, and you’re good to go! Make a whole bunch at the same time, and you’ll build a pile of these gorgeous, colourful pom poms in no time. Use to decorate gifts, vases, make garlands with them or hang them from a mobile – the options are endless!
