Behind The Door With....Sweet Fern

This week on ‘Behind The Door With…’, I’m visiting to Victoria’s third largest city, Ballarat, to meet the fabulous Kate Robinson of Sweet Fern fragrance boutique.

Kate opened Sweet Fern just over two years ago and tells me that it was a real passion project for her and her husband Simon. Kate had previously been an assistant school principal and decided to have a complete lifestyle change and open up a store focusing on luxurious body, bath and home fragrances.

Simon is a carpenter and fitted out the store using mostly reclaimed and recycled materials. Everything was custom designed so the space would be the full experience for those who visit. From the beautiful white washed brick front, to the custom timber shelving and handmade sink, everything in the store is inspiring and a delight to look at.

Kate believes that “scent is the chapter to your life” and that a scent is an important choice for soon to be brides. “Scent is the sense most linked to memory,” says Kate. “I want brides to choose something that reminds them of their wedding day whenever they wear it.” Sweet Fern sure is the place to find it with a full colour wheel of fragrances ranging from floral and woody to citrus and everything in between!

For those brides who love their perfume Sweet Fern also offer a bridal shower perfume masterclass perfect for hens’ days. Including a glass of French champagne on arrival, there’s a chance to learn about the history of perfume as Kate introduces you to the world’s finest perfume houses. The bride and bridal party are helped to select the perfect fragrance for their special day, with shopping and sweets treats to finish.

I think this is such an amazing place to really celebrate the lead up to a wedding and make the bride feel extra special. The perfect visit with your partner or for a girls day with friends.

Ms Chinoiserie Says: What a gorgeous boutique; the scents would be divine – and I know I would never want to leave!

About Amelia Waddell of Make Your Day Wedding Styling: I’m a wedding stylist and proud store owner who loves to chat weddings with everyone and anyone! I love to talk shop with other business owners (particularly over some chocolate cake!) and am the first to try and have a sticky beak behind the scenes of any event. My free time is spent ‘investigating’ new cafes, stores and events.
