How much fun did we have at Ed Dixon Food Design catering Barbara and Aaron’s elegant Top Paddock wedding! As Barbara remembers, “I guess you can say this venue not only suited our wedding style but who we are as a couple. Furthermore, when it came to choosing a wedding venue we wanted to look outside the box and pick a venue where our guests most likely haven’t celebrated a wedding before. We wanted to try and do something different and choose a venue that perhaps wasn’t seen as traditional.”

We kicked off the vibe with decadent grazing stations for the guests, with Barbara commenting, “Ed Dixon Food Design helped us to provide the most spectacular food – it was absolutely perfect! The grazing table was a hit and the food was endless!”

So let’s see how it all came together….

How was this wedding catered?

This wedding was for 160 guests. Barbara and Aaron opted for more of a party atmosphere and felt that a cocktail party lent itself more to a relaxed, celebratory feel. There were roaming canapés and mini-dishes, as well as a grazing table and we also did a supper bowl later in the evening.

Our tips for other couples considering a cocktail wedding.

Cocktail parties can often have a bad reputation, especially amongst parents of the couple, as this is a relatively new way to cater a wedding. There is always the concern that there will not be enough food. We always recommend to mix traditional style canapés with more substantial mini-dishes and include a grazing table – this means no-one goes hungry! We also suggest a ‘soak item’ later in the night when guests have had a bit to drink!

Why did we decide to add a grazing table?

A grazing table is an amazing addition to a cocktail style wedding. Not only is the table a spectacular focal point, it also allows guests to help themselves if they’re still hungry after the canapés. It’s good for ‘piece of mind’ as the couple can be assured there will be plenty of options available for their guests, including those with dietary requirements.
