Kate and Trent
Kate and Trent’s Melbourne garden wedding is such a beautiful ode to warmer weather. Kate describes the day as, “A day that was full of love, fun, laughter, dancing and a very happy and relaxed bride and groom.”
Photography today is by Niki Photography who captured the soft romance of the romantic garden celebration beautifully.
For her walk down the aisle, Kate remembers “My sister’s best friend and her husband are both wonderful musicians, so we asked them to perform acoustic music at our ceremony. I walked down the aisle to “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy. ” The couple chose Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy for their ceremony.
Kate remarks, “Our wedding day was very special to us. We had just spent four months apart, as I had moved to Dubai. We wanted an adventure after we were married, and to experience life overseas, so we made the decision that we would move. As we weren’t sure what the allowances were for unmarried couples living together, we thought it was safer for me to go on my own initially. The four months apart was definitely difficult, but as soon as I came home six days before the wedding, everything was forgotten and we were extremely excited!”
Sinikka Floral Design created the floral arrangements for the day while Rebecca Paris of The Girl In The Green Scarf styled the bride and bridesmaid’s hair and makeup.
Kate says, “One of our favourite details of the wedding was our gelati van! We decided against serving champagne and cocktails directly after the ceremony and decided to serve ice-cream instead! We are massive fans of ice-cream, so it was extremely fitting! Our guests loved it, as they were able to eat ice-cream and listen to beautiful music while we got some photos taken in the park close-by. We also had a ring-warming ceremony where we passed our wedding bands around our guests for them to bless, pray over or send positive thoughts to. We loved the thought that all of our loved ones would touch our rings and put all of their love into our relationship.”
Of their photographer, Kate says, “Nicky was A-mazing! We couldn’t have asked for a more creative and beautiful photographer who fit in exactly with our style, and our personalities!”
Kate notes ” I also half-made my shoes. I really couldn’t find anything that I wanted to suit my flowy, vintage style that I was going for. I found a pair of sandals and took out the material that was threaded through them and replaced them with the same material as my dress, and I loved the outcome! ”
DIY elements included signs, table decor, and the lolly table. Kate recalls, “There were some DIY projects that I did both before I moved to Dubai, and when I got home. My very talented brother-in-law is a graphic designer so he put together our designs our invitations. My Mum and I made hand-stamped labels and tied all the different parts of the invitations up with baker’s twine. I borrowed an assortment of bottles and jars from my best friend and placed white Singapore orchids in them for the table decorations. I also found a gorgeous vintage children’s book with a character called Lappy Lou, so each page of the book was placed in a white frame for table decoration also. We made some signs for the different elements in our reception, like our lolly table and photo booth. I hand stamped red letters onto vintage book pages. I also stamped ‘How sweet it is to be loved by you’ on brown paper bags for our lolly bags. The signs for the lolly table were all vintage prints that I bought off Etsy. I then labelled them with the lolly name and displayed them on little clips. Over the 15 months before our wedding, we collected glass containers to use for our lolly table. We chose all of our favourite lollies for our guests and the lolly table was definitely the highlight of the night for many! I also made labels for our beautiful cakes.”
Kate remembers, “Our first dance was to La Vie En Rose by Louis Armstrong. We actually didn’t want to have a first dance on our own, as I tend to hate being watched and being the centre of attention. But we had a crack and it was a special moment. Then everyone else joined us and was invited to join us and we were then surrounded by our loved ones! ”
Congratulations Kate and Trent! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us! Thank you also to Niki Photography for sharing today’s images!
