After Heidi and Will’s Whimsical Balloon Wedding, Heidi offered up these wise words of wisdom “Relax and enjoy yourselves!”
“Be prepared to feel loved. Our wedding was small and intimate (forty guests, including us) but it was huge in terms of the joy we felt to be surrounded by so many people that we love on such a special day.
Whether major or minor details, keep it simple by sticking to the things that are important to you and the things you really love.”
In terms of practicalities, lay the ground work first (venue, photographer, etc.), and include in this any purchases from abroad. This will allow plenty of time for shipping (and customs checks, should that apply). Double-check all clothing, including zips and buttons, before the day. Keep a notebook and write down important information such as quotes, contact names and numbers. Writing things down on a to-do list will help you to clear your mind. Factor in some time on the day to allow for a trip to the pharmacy/shop – if you’re like me, you’re bound to forget something!”
“For the finer details, it was important to us to make our guests feel loved, special and most welcome at all times. In the early stages, we created a website to share information with our guests and keep them informed of all the details and options available to them (e.g. the bus to and from the venue, information on the venue and local area, etc.). We welcomed guests from abroad who were staying at a local hotel with hand-written notes and chocolates to their room. We also provided comfort kits in the restrooms in case our guests needed to freshen up. On the day. we offered plenty of delicious food and wine that we had tried in advance, along with lovingly home-brewed beer, and handmade gifts to take home.”
“Stay calm and be sure to thank the service providers and suppliers with whom you are closely working when they have gone out of their way to help you.”
