Katie & Bryce
Ah Sydney, why do you show off so with your beautiful waterside weddings? They’re such a treat to pour over! Dunbar House sets the scene for Katie and Bryce and their beautiful waterside ceremony!
They start off their story. “We met through a friend. Kate lived with a good friend from high school, who worked at the Fire Brigade and invited her along to Friday drinks at The Edinburgh Castle. Bryce was a colleague of Kate’s friend and was celebrating his 23rd birthday that night in conjunction with the after work drinks. The happy hour left Kate and Bryce getting pretty cosy and deep in to discussion about the plot lines of Desperate Housewives & the OC. After being dared to kiss (they were both 23!) by their mutual friend they had a quick kiss and exchanged numbers and the rest is history.”
Beautiful photographs today from Jack Chauvel who captured the warm, golden light and fun fresh feeling of the wedding.
Susan Avery Flowers and Events created the luscious white bouquet. Katie remarking, “Susan Avery did our flowers for us and they were perfect. One of the main reasons we wanted to get married in November was because it’s the best time for peony roses. The bouquets were stunning and so were the table centrepieces.”
Katie loved, “The time I got to spend with my mum, dad, brother, bridesmaids and flower girl just before I got to walk down the aisle. It was frantic but there was so much excitement and it was amazing having the people I love most all together (minus my groom) in those special minutes.”
Katie describes the day as, “The happiest day of our lives – everything we had dreamed of. ” Katie wore a gown by Fashions by Farina.
Katie and Bryce married at Dunbar House. Katie says “Dunbar House was the perfect venue for our wedding. We got married in Robertson Park, under the Fig Tree, looking out on to Sydney Harbour. Then our guests went upstairs and enjoyed cocktails and canapes while we had photos taken. Stefania and Tony were so great to deal with. They are so professional and nothing was a problem for them. The venue is stunning, especially for an intimate wedding, and the food was really good. Many of our guests have commented on the food and attentive waitstaff. I can’t recommend Dunbar House highly enough.” Katie chose Pachelbel’s Canon in D for her walk down the aisle.
Katie recalls “Our ceremony was a civil service so we had three live songs as part of the ceremony. One of the songs ‘Watch Over Me’ was a tribute to the family members who weren’t there on the day but were there in spirit.”
Of their photographer, Katie says, “Jack was amazing! Jack is a family friend to Kate, growing up living next door and becoming good friends with her brother. Around the time we got engaged we found out that Jack had got in to photography and it seemed like the perfect choice. He did not disappoint. We love the natural way Jack takes photos, telling a story with his pictures. He made us feel so comfortable and was a pleasure to deal with the whole way. He understood Kate’s demand for details and made sure he got all the important photos we wanted.”
While the newlyweds had their photos taken, guests enjoyed the view from the balcony, Katie explaining, “We both love cocktails so we both chose our favourite cocktail (Cosmopolitan and Mojito) to be served to our guests when they were having canapes.”
Guests gathered inside the reception rooms at Dunbar House for dinner. Each place setting was set with a custom CD. Katie telling “For our bonbonierre we made CD’s for our guests. We asked our bridal party to each choose a song to put on there and state a reason why they had chosen it.”
Simmone Logue Fine Food Company created a two tier wedding cake adorned with fresh blooms.
Katie and Bryce had a fun way of introducing guests and breaking the ice. Katie tells “We gave each table a special name and asked our MC to do a brief intro of each table at the start of the reception to introduce everyone to each other. As each speaker got up we played a snippet of a song that is significant to them and us.”
For their first dance, Katie remembers, “One of our friends Amber, who teaches dance, came to our house a week before the wedding to show us a few moves. She helped us put a little routine together and our first dance was a highlight for both of us. Kate has always loved Van Morrison since she was little, so a song by him was an obvious choice. ‘Someone like you’ was the first dance song and our first dance was so much fun.”
Special touches? Kate had been given her mum’s wedding dress years ago. As a surprise she had it cleaned and changed in to it for the bouquet toss. Kate and her mum had a dance when she came out wearing it!
Congratulations Katie and Bryce! Thank you for sharing your wedding with us! Thank you also to Jack Chauvel for sharing today’s images with us!
