Jason and Rebecca

Jason and I met in high school and have been best friends for over eight years, sharing a passion for travelling, good food and a mutual appreciation of terrible sci-fi movies! He surprised me with his proposal in January, when I thought I was attending a comedy show, only to find him on one knee with our closest friends and family behind him holding a sign that read ‘Will you marry me?’

While it is generally our nature to shy away from the spotlight, we knew that we wanted our wedding day to be full of family, friends, laughter, music and good food!

My dear grandma passed away last year and we thought that her beautiful heritage house would be the ideal location for our garden wedding ceremony. There would be no better way to make her feel present during our celebrations and I have very fond memories as a child picking mulberries from the tree we said our vows in front of.

The groomsmen were perfect gentlemen, offering guests drinks upon arrival – one of my favourite touches was the Polaroid guestbook, which is now displayed in our home!

The rest of the garden was transformed with metres upon metres of hand-made bunting, pots filled with ice and champagne, and flowers to accentuate the classic features of the house.

Everything was organised on a modest budget, with our bridal party encouraged to wear whatever they felt beautiful/handsome in. My dress was an ethereal design from ModCloth, which was complemented by a floral crown.

One of the absolute highlights for us was having our favourite food van (The Bun Mobile) appear at the venue. While some of the guests were initially quite surprised by our choice of cuisine, I’m thrilled to say it was a hit with everyone, even Jason’s 76 year-old grandfather!

The reception was held at our favourite café, Foxy Bean, which is where you’ll find us every other weekend for their amazing breakfast menu! The venue offers an incredible setting with pressed metal backdrops, floor-to-ceiling murals and a kitschy courtyard, complete with AstroTurf!

We danced along to an amazing jazz band (the saxophone player was divine!) and enjoyed a canapé menu boasting cuisine such as Peking duck pancakes, spicy avocado/mango salsa bruschetta and mini sweet potato/pistachio desserts. We were in heaven!

Our day wouldn’t have been complete without our wonderfully talented and professional photographer Kelly Adams. We felt comfortable and had no doubts that she was there to capture our precious moments.. And she even encouraged guests to let loose in the photo booth!

In addition to this, my bridesmaids had a ball filming the activities throughout the day themselves, thanks to the loan of the Super 8MM Kit from W Films. This three-minute video was the perfect way to capture the fun, silliness, laughter and overall tone of the wedding!

Our celebrations were a reflection of our personalities, inspirations and passions. There was no stress placed upon our little budget, schedules or obligations, just the opportunity to share a day full of love between our family, friends, and all the amazing people who helped make it come together.

P.S. Jason being the technologically talented guy he is, put together this website for guests (initially a way to display the ceremony location, menu and RSVP confirmation), which was then updated with ceremony photos, booth photos and the gorgeous 3 minute video!

Ms Gingham says: Love the super 8 video. Thanks to Rebecca for sharing her wedding with us today!

Rebecca says: “My new hubby and I had a ball planning our wedding. Combining my love of all things vintage and whimsical, with his clever technological ideas made our day very special indeed.”
