Summer is the perfect time for a wedding and also the perfect time for delicous home-made wedding favours. I’ve always loved the idea of home-made wedding favours, adding something to your wedding that shows what you love and tells your story. Summer is also the ideal time to make jam as many fruits are in season.

I’m a big fan of jams, pickles and preserves and would like to share this home-made jam recipe for your home-made wedding favours. It also comes with free wedding favour tags, how cute!

What you need for the jam:

  • 3kg strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 3kg sugar
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Jars

To make your jam, start by sterilizing the jars and lids in a pot of boiling water. Place your strawberries in a large saucepan and stir through the sugar. Leave for 1-2 hours to soften the fruit. Add the lemon juice and then cook the mixture over a medium heat, stirring constantly, until the fruit is soft. Remove a third of the fruit and set aside. Cook the remaining mixture until the fruit is mostly dissolved and the jam coats the back of a spoon. If the mixture is still too runny, cook it longer until the jam sticks. Mix your reserved fruit with the remaining mixture and divide between the jars. Carefully seal with lids and leave to cool.

Step 3: Use a 3mm hole punch to create holes just above the love heart.

Step 4: Iron your fabric and measure how large your squares need to be for your jars. To make it easier you can create a paper template to cut your fabric.

Step 5: Place your fabric on top of your jar lids and tie the twine/bakers twine around the rim of the lid. A little handy trick is to use an elastic band to hold your fabric in place before tying your twine around the jar. Create a double knot with the twine before attaching your wedding favour tag.

All done, enjoy your delicious jam and pretty looking jars!

About Bianca from miki.0: “I’m originally from the Netherlands where I spent 22 years of my life but I now live, work and play in Melbourne, Australia. In the spare time that I have left I love to cook, read, walk, ski and travel. Last year I spent 4 weeks in South America, which was an amazing experience. Peru was my absolute favourite. We also went to Hawaii, a place I want to return to. This year we’re off to visit my folks back home, but we’re also planning to sneak in some traveling. I’d like to visit Prague & Vienna.”
