Rose Petal Homemade Vinegar

This pretty-in-pink rose-scented homemade vinegar makes a beautiful wedding favour and is super easy to whip up. You just need to start it a week or two ahead to let the flavours infuse. Then all you need are some little bottles and a few decorations and you have your favours sorted!

It’s a nice idea to add in a few recipe suggestions for the vinegar too. Check out the bottom of this post for some ideas.

What you need:

– 1 litre white wine vinegar.

– Saucepan.

– 1 cup dried edible rose petals. I used Pariya brand from a specialty food store.

– Clean 5-cup capacity bottle or jar with lid.

– Funnel.

– Small bottles or jars with lids.

Tags, twine, doilies etc to decorate.

Place the vinegar in a saucepan and heat until hot, but not boiling.  Place the rose petals in a large bottle/jar. Pour over the vinegar. Seal with a lid and set aside in a cool dark place. Leave for at least 1 week (up to 3 weeks), shaking daily. Strain the vinegar into the small bottles/jars and decorate.

Makes 1 litre

– This recipe can easily be doubled/tripled etc to whatever quantity you need.

– For a simple salad dressing combine 1/4 cup rose vinegar, 1/4 cup olive oil, 2 teaspoons honey, 1 small crushed garlic clove, salt and pepper.

– Use this vinegar in marinades for chicken and pork.

– Dilute vinegar with water to use as an aftersun spray.

Hi Jane – love this post. Do the rose petals flavour the vinegar at all, or just give it the wonderful colour?

Hi Ms Stripey, Absolutely! The colour is just a pretty by-product. The vinegar has a lovely subtle floral taste that makes it perfect for spring salads.
