Cape Town is the perfect South African honeymoon spot and with an array of beautiful places to visit, it’s hard to pass it up. Take the time to visit South Africa’s wildlife or seek out wine valleys and shopping venues. Whatever it is you’re after, Cape Town has it – and does it spectacularly.

1. Boulders and Foxy Beach

Home to a breeding colony of over 2000 endangered African Penguins, Boulder Beach and Foxy Beach are rare hidden gems on South Africa’s coastline. This Cape Town attraction is the only place in the world where visitors can get up close to the adorably-suited African Penguins, and it’s never been easier to marvel at the animals with the upgrade of boardwalks that traverse the beach, information centres, and nearby facilities. It’s a must-see location in Cape Town, and a nice introduction to Africa’s wildlife.

2. Durbanville Nature Reserve

The six hectare nature reserve offers a range of activities for travellers. If you’re an adventurous and sight-seeing type of couple, this is an irresistible place to visit on your honeymoon. Explore everything from the breathtaking walking trails, the lovely picnic sites, birdwatching opportunities, and an abundance of animal species. Here you can get up close to Cape Town’s most beautiful and most historic scenery away from the bustling city.

3. Wine Valleys

Cape Town has an array of charming wine valleys worth exploring – and all offer tours, tastings and a lifetime of memories. The Constantia Valley is one of Cape Town’s most renowned wine locations, and with its heritage and alluring landscapes, it’s not hard to see why. The valley has something for every honeymooning couple, from wine estates famous for their cool climate wines, and year-round wine tastings to catered picnics, live music, and delightful festivals.

4. V&A Waterfront

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront has an abundance of unforgettable experiences, from the breathtaking views to the contemporary atmosphere, and there is so much to see and do. Be sure to discover this lovely hot spot.

5. Table Mountain

The best for last – Cape Town’s crème de le crème! Renowned for being one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Table Mountain boasts the most beautiful views in all of South Africa. It’s renowned for being Cape Town’s most iconic (and most photographed) landmark, and it’s no surprise with the Cape of Good Hope and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens also adding to the beauty. Make absolutely sure you take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway for views of a lifetime!

5 Things to Do:

There are so, so many things you can do in Cape Town, and it was hard limiting it to just 5—nonetheless, these all earn top-spots. All boast some spectacular views, amazing facilities and services, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that lead to lifelong memories.

1. Gourmet Restaurants

As I mentioned in the top five places to stay, the hotels of Cape Town have some extraordinary restaurants to dine in. But these are just the tip of the iceberg. Explore some of the best restaurants in South Africa across the city; the majority of which you can find at the V&A Waterfront. Venture out further than the immediate area and find the hidden gems of food and wine in Cape Town, like the mouth-wateringly-good La Colombe.

2. Take to the Skies

It’s no secret that Cape Town is one of the more adventurous and exhilarating honeymoon destinations, and with the breathtaking landscape it’s easy to see why. Check out Sky Adventures to take the ultimate plunge, literally! Book out an instructor and the equipment and take to the skies to test out paragliding, microlighting, and skydiving – and make a whirlwind of memories in the exhilarating space between the plane and the ground.

3. African Wildlife Trails

I’ve mentioned Boulders Beach (which is absolutely gorgeous), but that’s just the start to South Africa’s wildlife. If you and your better half are considering a sightseeing, adrenaline-pumping, once-in-a-lifetime type of adventure on your honeymoon, then there’s no better place to do that then in Cape Town, surrounded by the best of South Africa’s wildlife. Earthstomper Adventures offers a Safari tour that takes you out to see some of Africa’s most spectacular animals. Or, if you only have time for the one-day stopover, check out Cape Town Safaris.

4. Cape Peninsula Road Trip

Enjoy the quaint towns, the lush hillside, wildflowers, and the white sand beaches of South Africa on a road trip across Cape Peninsula. This romantic little trip can be organised with Cape Town Day Tours or Cape Town Tourism. Be sure to take your time exploring the hillside and finish off the trip at Camps Bay late afternoon to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets you’ll ever see.

5. Simon’s Town

For an undersea adventure, I can’t recommend anything more than Simon’s Town. The scenic 40-minute drive south is only part of the romance; when you get there you have the exhilarating option to take a dive. Team up with Shark Explorers to either test the adrenaline rush in an offshore cage dive with white sharks, swim with the inshore creatures and say hello to sea turtles, take a two-tank dive to search for the elusive Sevengill Cow shark, or, best of all, spend the day swimming with the goofily-adorable Cape fur seals.
