In 2010 Matthew quit his job and started backpacking around the world on a budget, sharing photos and stories from his adventures on a travel blog, Expert Vagabond. After 7 years and 50 countries, he’s still at it, and it’s his full-time job. He inspires people through his tales of adventure and fun ideas for their own vacations. Matthew gave us the low-down on the beautiful Iceland, and we just cant wait to go!

What is your favourite region?

That’s always a tough question, but I’m a big fan of Iceland. If you love adventurous destinations like me, you’ll be in heaven there. Waterfalls, glaciers, northern lights, hiking, fuzzy horses, active volcanoes, relaxing hot-springs, it has it all.

Top resort recommendation?

Ion Luxury Adventure Hotel. Just getting to this crazy-looking glass & concrete resort is an adventure. The views out of your room towards Thingvellir National Park are incredible, and their spa is fantastic.

Suggestions for great honeymoon activities?

Well, you can’t go wrong with the Blue Lagoon. But if you want to get away from the crowds, I’d recommend a romantic road trip around Iceland’s Ring Road in a camper van, stopping at waterfalls & small villages along the way.

The ideal location for a proposal

Somewhere in remote Eastern Iceland, while gazing up into the sky together at the magical Northern Lights.

Best kept secret honeymoon location

Exploring the depths of a bright blue crystal ice cave on the edge of a massive glacier.

Ms Zigzag says: If you’re the type of couple that like to do things that are outside of the box, then a honeymoon in Iceland is just the ticket for you!
