Rob and I first met back in high school. We were merely acquaintances at that stage, although I always did find him intriguing. He was a quiet guy that would always have a smile on his face and had a certain maturity about him that a lot of the other boys in the year level didn’t possess.

The night our relationship began was all thanks to his best mate, Nic a.k.a Donuts! He had somehow forgotten to invite me to his 21st and with my love for a glass or twelve of wine, any excuse for a drink and I was there! All my friends were going and I asked if I could tag along as a plus one. He didn’t mind me coming as long as I promised to drink lots and party hard.

For me at the ripe age of 20, this was not a problem. I had a bottle of Passion Pop on the way (as you did back in those days) and walked in on the hunt for Rob Cameron. I saw him across the room and wondered if he was single. Luckily he was, and from that first interaction at Donut’s 21st, things really heated up for Rob and I.

Fast forward 8 years and Rob finally got up the courage to present me with a ring. During a weekend away, he went to the car to grab something and came back with a box saying, “Well you better put this on then!”

Of course, being the man I knew and loved, that proposal was perfectly him and I said ‘yes’ before he had even really asked the question!

The planning began soon after we were engaged as I had been keenly awaiting this moment since our initial meeting in 2009! I always knew he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my days with, and what better way to celebrate that prospect than with a big party with our nearest and dearest.

The venue we chose reflected us in so many ways. The Log Cabin Ranch was the first venue we inspected and when we got home, decided it was the one. The property is like a farm setting but with so much love and charm. The gum tree lined boundaries, rolling hills in the distance, refurbished stables and a stunning barn adorned with fairy lights ticked all our boxes for an outdoor wedding with a wet weather option being equally as beautiful.

When it came to styling the venue, I knew I wanted it to maintain it’s rustic charm but I wanted to add a bohemian theme. We enlisted the help of Unpolished Wedding Hire to hire boho mismatched chairs and The Dream Mamas to hang their stunning dream catchers around the venue. It was also important to me that there was lots of greenery around and natives.

Our flowers and greenery were all created by Rob’s aunties. They purchased it all from a local wholesaler and then spent hours creating the most stunning bouquets and buttonholes. It was truly so special to have them made by ladies who will always be a major part of our lives.

When planning the colour scheme, I knew blush tones were what I wanted, with the boys in neutral colours and bright, vibrant natives for the bouquets. I was adamant that I didn’t want the bridesmaids to match too much as I wanted them to love what they were wearing and look unique. I researched many mismatched bridal parties and then decided to let the girls choose their own look. Three weeks out from the wedding, two of the four still didn’t have a dress they loves after many online shopping disasters! It didn’t worry me though and we set off on a shopping trip to Chadstone to find them. Two hours later and we had found the most stunning dresses (that were also on sale!) in Sheike and Bariano. I was so happy with how they looked together on the day and received many compliments about them, even from the doubters!

My dress was from Kylie J Bridal in Brunswick. The first time I tried it on their were many tears! It was the one and I knew it. I felt beautiful in it on the day.

Our first dance was under the festoon lights as the sunset to the acoustic song ‘Endless Summer’ (originally by the Jezabels then covered by Josh Pyke). Our wedding day was held on the 19th of January on a 42 degree day, perfectly fitting for the song ‘Endless Summer’! It ended up being a beautiful, balmy night and when the ice cream truck arrived, our guests’ eyes lit up. Everyone enjoyed the catering including; antipasto platters, woodfired pizzas, donuts and of course an ice cream or four!

The vibe of the day was just perfect. The acoustic singer created a real ambience and looking around on the night, everyone seemed to be having a great time chatting, drinking and dancing the night away. You could definitely feel more than heat in the air. There was so much love!

40 guests also stayed the night at The Log Cabin Ranch, continuing the party into the early hours of the morning! We were so lucky to have so many amazing family and friends help with the set up in the lead up as well as the pack up (which was done with a few sore heads)!

Some advice that I would give to future brides:

  • Always take some time away from the guests/party with your new hubby and just take it all in from a distance.
  • Be sure to take lots of selfies with your Bride Squad when getting ready. That’s such a special part of the day!
  • Undergarments are not always necessary (especially when the dresses hold everything together) and can make it more uncomfortable than it needs to be (mine ended up in the bin an hour into the reception)!
  • If you can, rake some time off in the week leading up. It’s important to have a date night with hubby to be, spend time with overseas/interstate guests and relax!
  • Just have fun! Don’t sweat the small things like the table settings not being what you envisioned or the weather being crazy! It’s about you celebrating your love with those who support your relationship.

It’s been four months since the wedding and I still feel like I’m on cloud nine. What a day!
