Heather & Scott
Perth transformed into the most intimate and romantic venue for this gorgeous wedding! Featuring a breathtaking BHLDN wedding gown, a well-loved vintage car for transport and a relaxed cocktail reception; inspiration a-plenty is coming your way. Lana Pratt captured the day.
Meeting online led to a lunch date, the success of which led to the whole day being spent together, which led to the present day! The inseparable couple became engaged in Japan, Heather sharing, ”Scott loves snowboarding, so for his birthday I bought tickets to fly to Japan. While in Niseko, after a long day of snowboarding, we had stopped halfway down the mountain to rest; completely alone and surrounded by white-topped trees. Scott knelt and pulled the ring out of his pocket. I was so shocked I didn’t even say ‘yes’ till one minute later! The ring looked like a snowflake, it was perfect! He had tried proposing two other times on that trip but was beaten to it by another couple using his location to propose at the top of the mountain, and the second time he was kneeling in the snow – which you have to do when you have a snowboard strapped to your feet – and I rode straight past him. Completely unaware. We had a good laugh about this when he told me eventually.”
Listing the experience of finding her wedding dress as a solid favourite, Heather found ‘the one’ at BHLDN. Of the dress she tells, ”It’s very unique to each bride, so once you lock that part in then the rest seems to fall into place. I love lace! I love the simplicity and elegance of it. I started looking for my dress with this theme in mind and couldn’t find anything that I loved. There were elements of dresses that I liked but as a whole I wasn’t sold. I came across a dress that I picked years ago. It was beige/nude/blush and I fell in love with the concept of a non-white dress. I found my dress with bead detailing which gave it the luxury and elegance I was looking for and, for $500, I couldn’t complain! I couldn’t believe it. I bought it online and was so nervous that it wouldn’t work out but I was so happy with the quality. After some tailoring, the dress was perfect!” The groom was to wear a navy suit, however decided on a classically-cut, olive green suit from Jack London.
Choosing to forego a bridal party, Heather and Scott had their ceremony at the Perth Registry Office. The bride shares, ”The day was completely about us two and our commitment to each other. We chose the Registry to share our vows once we saw the views from the ten-storey building! We went to the office to lodge our intent to marry and fell in love with the view.” Heather’s mum walked her down the aisle. Heather says of the ceremony, ”It was intimate with close family and friends. We didn’t want to embellish or overdo anything so the ceremony was basic in comparison to others I have been to. All eyes and ears were on us.”
Hey There Poppy created Heather’s pretty bouquet with roses, Hypericum Berry and a King Protea. The bride tells her florist’s take on the bouquet was, ”Completely cool and unique, utilising not only flowers but seed pods and kale. Hey There Poppy just has that raw talent to see the beauty in things and showcase it. I love natives so that was my theme, bringing in the pinks to match the dress.” The vehicle of choice was a vintage 1974 Holden Kingswood, belonging to the bride. She shares, ”I spent a bit of money respraying the old girl, which we used in the photo shoot and which Scott drove to the ceremony.”
In pulling together their intimate and romantic wedding day, Heather had a specific look she was hoping to achieve when it came to photography. With photos being taken around the beautiful city of Perth, the bride says she, ”Can’t recommend Lana Pratt enough! I had a style in mind when I was looking for a photographer and Lana nailed it. She’s so easy to get along with that we were so relaxed on the day. I’ve recommended her to a few friends and rightly so.”
With a rustic interior and character for days, the couple chose The Guildford Hotel as their reception venue. Heather remembers, ”We fell in love with the old-school industrial charm of the Guildford Hotel, the exposed brick and timber floors. The building has so much style and character that we didn’t style it much, which saved us a packet!” The bride and groom were keen to have their guests enjoy the celebratory evening, and planned a less formal reception. Heather tells it was, ”Relaxed and comfortable, we had a cocktail style wedding as we wanted to encourage everyone to mingle and feel free to use all the beautiful space. Plus the dance floor was a huge success!”
With jars of flowers and native foliage scattered around the room, a semi-naked cake by Enchanted Fig Cakes, and a wishing well set up, the guests enjoyed mingling in The Guildford Hotel and the personal styling. The bride tells, ”We did the table decorations. We had a rose gold theme that we carried through with photo frames and vases and tea light candle holders. Lots of eucalyptus branches to carry on the native theme too.” The newlyweds had their first dance to ‘Time After Time’ by Cyndi Lauper.
A huge thank you to our beautiful bride and groom for sharing your gorgeous wedding day, and congratulations! Thank you also to Lana Pratt for sharing your stunning photographs.
