Elegant, delicate, understated are some words that spring to mind with each collection from Bertossi Brides. Laces and fabrics chosen with such care and designed and sewn to perfection by a team of talented seamstresses on site – all made right here in Australia. Embellished by beading that is subtle yet adds the perfect finishing touch to a gown that will make your heart sing and feel beautiful on your wedding day.
We asked Ann of Bertossi Brides at Paddington Weddings five questions in five minutes:
What is your reward after a big working day?
At Paddington Weddings we love our job and give 110% to our brides, in the creation of their gowns and the customer service in the store, so when we are fully booked this can be quite exhausting at the end of the day. I love to go home and take my beautiful chocolate lab ‘Tia’ on a lovely long walk to clear my head before a relaxing with my family.
Favourite weekend getaway?
We are lucky enough to have one of the most beautiful Islands just off of Brisbane called ‘Stradbroke Island’ and I love to go over there on the weekend with my family to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
What is your most prized possession?
I was brought up in the sewing world with my dad being a pattern cutter and my mum a seamstress (she still works with us today at Paddington Weddings creating the gowns). Unfortunately, my dad passed away when he was only 47 but I still have his original shears that he used to cut with, they are too big and heavy for me to use but I have them framed in my shop here in Paddington as a constant reminder of his hard work and creativity.
We have had our shop here in Paddington, Brisbane for 23 years now, even living behind it in the early years so love supporting the local restaurants. There are many fantastic places to eat and drink around us but one of our favourites is another longstanding Paddington Business, just like us, called ‘Grappino’s‘. They make fabulous traditional Italian food and even after all these years we have never been disappointed.
What do you enjoy most about being in the wedding industry?
Being part of this wonderful industry allows me to follow my passion for fine fabrics and the perfect fit. I travel all over Europe, handpicking the best quality silks and laces to use in my designs and I love nothing more than cutting and fitting a gown perfectly to each individual bride and creating their dream dress that they look and feel amazing in.
