Being engaged – though fleeting – is one of the best times in your life (so enjoy it while you can!) There’s just something about calling yourself a fiancé/fiancée that makes everything a little more sparkly, shiny and golden. So do mark this special occasion with a very special cocktail – preferably something fancy and delicious that is deceptively simple to mix up.

Melbourne’s Monsieur Cocktail a.k.a. Maximilien Beal is no stranger to making things extra special. He creates sensory cocktail degustation experiences for small groups in your own home or other private spaces. How wonderful would that be for an upscale bridal shower or buck’s party? Monsieur Cocktail has developed this ‘Golden Hour’ cocktail that he’s kindly sharing the secrets to today. Goodbye cookies and milk. Hello choccy biscuits and spiced rum!

Golden Hour cocktail by Monsieur Cocktail

  • 35ml Australian spiced rum (like Untold, Rum Diary Spiced or Hoochery)
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice
  • 20ml of Tasmanian leatherwood honey syrup
  • 30ml blanc de blanc French sparkling wine (or any dry sparkling)
  • Chocolate biscuit, to garnish
  • Edible gold leaf, to garnish
  • Ribbon or other decoration, to garnish

Apply a little gold leaf to your chocolate biscuit. Shake all the ingredients except for the garnishes and sparkling wine.
Double strain into a coupe glass. Top up with sparkling wine.
Balance your biscuit on the side and tie a ribbon around your glass.
P.S. If you’re not yet in that golden engaged mode, you could even tie a ring around the stem of this glass and propose?!
