Before you dive into today’s wedding, you need to grab a glass of bubbles, kick off your shoes, and head outside under your favourite tree. Because that sense of Mother Nature’s bliss, of gorgeous celebration on the greenest of grass, of a little celebration in a garden – that’s exactly the vibe of Britt and Pickle’s romantic & modern Mount Warning wedding.

As these stunning pictures from Ivy Road Photography prove, it was a day filled with celebration, with fun, with dappled sunshine in the garden, and in the bride’s words, was a day that was “Silky, sleek and a bit quirky”.

It was after another life milestone that Pickle asked Britt to marry him, she tells the story. “I had just been accepted into my dream job as a firefighter so Pickle and I were driving my car down to Sydney to start the training. He knew how nervous I was and said to calm my nerves he would book us somewhere cute to stay along the way. He booked a stunning little apartment at Emerald Beach. He suggested a walk once we arrived. I was wearing ugly sneakers and jeans as it was cold.

We start walking up the most stunning headland and had a wallaby and a joey come up and greet us, we kept walking and then dolphins started playing in the waves. We were both pretty impressed. Then when we reached the top of the hill a whale started breaching. I was over the moon. The whale then stopped. Strangely Pickle got angry at the whale, I was laughing at him for being cranky with the whale when I turned around to see him on two knees. I was shocked and excited. The next little bit is a bit of a blur but I definitely said yes. We laughed about it later realising that he had gotten down on two knees and it would have looked like he was begging to passers-by.”

Britt found her dream gown by Chosen By One Day at Love, Marie sharing “I found it really hard to find a dress that had no lace and no beads. I wanted sexy and sleek and really struggled, Then I found Chosen. It was actually the first dress I tried on, I got the neckline changed to make it a one of a kind.” The bride didn’t try on her gown until the wedding day- so luck was on her side with a perfect fit! She added her aunt’s gold bangle and blue velvet shoes from Loeffler Randall.

The groom and groomsmen dressed in pieces from Politix and Asos – a last minute decision after the groom’s custom ordered blue velvet suit arrived in a worse for wear state.

Britt and Pickle chose a garden style, cocktail wedding at the beautiful Mavis’s Kitchen, sharing “We wanted something original and cute, we didn’t want somewhere people we knew had gone or where we sat in a big stale room.”

Britt and Pickle were accompanied by some very special important guests, explaining “Our puppymaid was Porscha the 15-year-old Pomeranian. She was the star and made all the bridesmaids jealous. She was a big reason why we didn’t have our wedding out of Australia. She actually passed away 6 weeks after the wedding. From the ages of 16 Porscha and I had chatted about her being a bridesmaid. My three nans who are all so wonderful were my witnesses and we were so privileged and lucky to have them at our wedding. The other reason we had our wedding in Australia was so all our grandparents could be there. It just wouldn’t have been the same without them.”

Britt walked down the aisle on the arm of her step-father to Wiyathul by Gurrumul.

Britt and Pickle wanted a certain vibe their ceremony, enlisting Lyndsay Smith to make it official. “We wanted it to be relaxed and quick but serious, not silly vows where there are jokes every second. We had the Chaplain for Fire and Rescue NSW as our celebrant and he was just the most calming and present voice that just oozes respect when he talked. We didn’t have readings as we felt that wasn’t us we just shared our commitment and love. It was funny looking out in the crowd everyone was crying and so was Pickle.”

The beautiful blooms on the day were styled by Florals and Co, under instruction from Pickle! Britt telling “Pickle was Flower man for the big day, that is much more his element and he chose native flowers, we really wanted some choc sunflowers as they were cool. Our Wonderful friend Sarah Mae at Florals and Co did the flowers for us. She is fantastic as she just knows what to do and goes for it. She was also a guest so she had a very busy day in the heat.”

Planning the day, and doing it together, was the best part of the whole shebang for these two. “Just every time Pickle and I sat down together we would get butterflies thinking is it really happening, we’re getting to do this together, we didn’t really care about the planning so much just excited about committing to each other.”

Secret sunset photoshoots with just the newlyweds and champagne were a definite highlight of the day for Britt and Pickle, who tell of their photographer “Shelley was a goddess!! We actually had one before her but I got a gut feeling that it wasn’t right so hunted down Shelley for her light and positive photography. All I can say I when getting a photographer- they are one of the most important people there on the day so choose wisely and make sure they have good time management skills and aren’t afraid to tell you what to do. There is nothing worse than looking back at a photo and realising your arm looks awkward or your tummy is sticking out. We had two photographers and a videographer a wonderful friend who is an epic surf/nature videographer who we choose after seeing his short film documenting local surfing man’s life beautifully.”

For the dance floor, Britt changed into a gold sequin gown from Alamour the Label .

And then it was time to hit the dance floor, although it didn’t quite go as planned! In Britt’s words “Our first dance has got us a tad embarrassed. We danced to Sail Away by David Gray as he is our favourite ever! It was so lovely to us but according to some of our guests, we may have got a tad touchy on the dancefloor… whoops. Pickle is a very good dancer and he was trying to get all technical but I can’t dance so he had to stay slow with me.”
