Collette & Nathan

During The Tasmania Issue, we’re devoted to covering every corner of the Apple Isle and its penchant for a darn good wedding. Today, we’re headed to the magnificent, the historic Quamby Estate for a charming summer wedding. Packed with vintage style and with the lovely Astrid Simone Photography behind the camera, it’s a wedding that shows off the other side of Tasmania’s winter loving culture.

It was a long time coming for these two, who met as teenagers at age 15, in the same homeroom class at their high school, tying the knot some eleven years later after Nathan proposed the big question in a picnic proposal. Colette remembering the story.  “It was the Sunday a couple of days after my birthday and Nathan took me out for breakfast. After he took me for a drive to “Look at a house he was building”. We drove to the top of a hill were Nathan and I use to watch fireworks when we were younger. At the top of the hill, in a park was our friend’s ute.

Our dog Chips was there with a little bag tied around her neck. Nathan opened the bag and pulled out a ring box and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! there was a picnic set up on the back of the Ute with flowers, wine and all my favourite foods. It was beautiful. From there we took Chips home and continued my surprise.

We got a hotel Nathan was renovating where he had booked a room that was covered in rose petals, again wine and he had arranged for my favourite dinner to be there.”

As a tradie, the groom spends all year in shorts, so it was a natural idea that he’d wear them for his wedding! He chose a look from Country Road.

The bride chose a long sleeve, vintage-inspired lace gown by Lillian West from Cheveux Bridal. She kept to the vintage style, finding her bridesmaids sweet vintage style dresses at Forever New. “The dresses were ivory, high neck and fitted all three bridesmaids perfectly to suits each uniquely. The dressing was a perfect fit for the venue and overall style.” The bride finished her look with her grandmother’s own antique necklace.

Collette and Nathan chose the beautiful historic venue of Quamby Estate to marry, sharing “Built-in 1828. Beautifully preserved. It is a luxury country homestead with was the perfect fit for mine and Nathan’s vision. Nathan and I were looking for a venue we could have the entire wedding and reception at and Quamby was perfect. The rooms were all so unique and luxurious. The receptions room has three glass walls, white drapes, fairy lights and plenty of room for all our guests. The food was a gourmet buffet that was just beyond amazing!”

Collette walked down the aisle with her father to Angus & Jula Stone’s “Wherever You Are”.

Collette describes the ceremony as “Relaxed and fun. We wanted it to tell our story. We wrote our own vows and were surrounded by 100 friends and family.”

Flowers by Lace created the floral details for the day, Collette telling  “I have always loved red flowers so I had a beautiful bouquet that had assorted flowers and foliages in burgundy and white. Roses, dahlias, protea, gum and pepper berries.”

Of their photographers, Collette says “Absolutely amazing. When I first met Astrid she made us feel very comfortable and was easy going. Astrid photography has captured so many amazing moments on the most magical day. Astrid and Tegan worked so well together to make sure no moments were missed! Their talents are beyond.”

Long king tables featured in the reception, tables topped with ivy (supplied by the bride herself!), brass vessels and flowers of cherry and raspberry red. Collette adding a personal touch by making the stationery herself.

And after dinner it was time to dance, the couple choosing “Collide” by Howie Day. “This was a favourite song of ours in college” explains the bride.

What a beautiful celebration this was! Thank you to you both Collette and Nathan for sharing your beautiful wedding day! Thank you also to Astrid Simone Photography for sharing such beautiful captures!
